Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 32

“You seem to have the wrong idea about what happened last night…”

Camilla’s eyes flashed, dark and bright with anger. “So what—none of it happened?” Camilla’s voice shook. “The kissing? The hands on me? Waking up naked in your bed?” Her voice shook with frustration.

Lambert felt completely out of his depth. Nothing like this had ever happened to him before. With her, all his usual control didn’t just slip, it crumbled. He’d lost his grip, felt things he shouldn’t, and now, he had no words at all.

Camilla turned to leave. Without thinking, Lambert reached out to stop her.

She’d had enough. She shoved him away and then ran, not even looking back.

Lambert almost chased her. But that last look she shot him—so full of anger and disgust, maybe even fear—froze him in place. He closed his eyes and swallowed down everything he couldn’t say.

The door opened and Faust came in, looking confused. “Why’d Camilla just storm out?”

“Let her go.” Lambert turned away, not wanting Faust to spot the mess he was feeling. “Where’s Daniel?”

“Still locked up, waiting on your orders. I already got my guys to send Owen back to the Gateses. For the next three years, he won’t be setting foot in Cabinda.”

“Get him out of here.”

Faust made a quick call, then came over for a closer look at Lambert. “What’s going on with your face? It’s all red.”

Lambert raised his hand to his cheek. It still burned where Camilla had slapped him.

Faust remembered the way she’d dashed out and finally put the pieces together. “Wait…it was her? She actually hit you?”

Lambert didn’t answer, but his silence said enough.

Faust just stared. “You just saved her. Shouldn’t she be thankful? Why’d she slap you? Or is this some plan between her and her husband—maybe the whole Owen thing was set up?”

“Alright, alright, I got it,” Faust said, backing off but unable to resist one last jab. “Man, you are whipped. Can’t even say her name without you freaking out. But if you’re so in love, how’d you end up with a slap across the face?”

“Get out.”

Faust didn’t need to be told twice—he hurried out, not interested in catching the rest of Lambert’s mood.

On his way down the stairs, Faust ran into Daniel. Daniel had been locked up for who knows how long, completely lost, no idea what had just happened. Spotting Faust, he hurried over. “Faust! Have you seen Owen?” Clearly he’d been searching everywhere, and Camilla wasn’t answering her phone either.

Faust looked right through him. Seriously, what kind of man lets another guy near his wife? “I haven’t seen him.”

“That’s weird,” Daniel muttered. “Why did the party end so suddenly? Did something go wrong?” He looked worried, anxiety written all over his face.

Faust just forced a smile. “Don’t bother asking. Just go home.” He almost said more, but held it back. Some people really just have to figure things out the hard way.
