Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 43

“What?”

Latonia’s eyes widened in shock.

Camilla noticed her reaction and gave a tired little smile. “He’s a big deal, right? You’ve heard of him too?”

“That can't be.” Latonia frowned, clearly unsettled. “Camilla, are you sure you’re not making a mistake?”

Camilla shook her head slowly. “When I woke up, I wasn’t wearing anything. He was the only one there. And some of the things I do remember... it was him.”

Latonia just stared at her, then shook her head, struggling to process. “I don’t want to believe it.”

“Maybe he’s just really good at pretending in public,” Camilla said quietly. “The first time I ever saw him, I thought he was so poised and untouchable. I never imagined he could do something like this.”

“If it really happened, I’ll help you.” Latonia looked Camilla in the eye. “But do you have any evidence? Anything at all?”

Camilla hesitated, then shook her head. “I did some research online... Everything I read said DNA evidence matters, but I don’t have any.”

Latonia frowned. “How could there be nothing?”

“I think he cleaned me up while I was unconscious.” Camilla looked down and forced the words out. “So, there’s really no proof.”

Latonia let out a long breath. “It’s already hard for women to get justice with things like this. Without DNA evidence, it’s even tougher.”

“I do have something, though.” Camilla pulled out her phone, gripping it tightly. “I have a recording of Daniel. Could that help?”

Latonia considered this. “It might, but honestly, it’s pretty weak evidence on its own. Stuff like this can easily get thrown out.”

Latonia shook her head, looking genuinely sorry. “No lawyer is going to take this. I want to help, I really do, but I don’t see any chance of winning.”

Camilla felt everything inside her go numb. “Then what am I supposed to do to make him admit it?”

“Honestly, if what you’re saying is true, you may not be the only one. But without evidence—or other victims willing to come forward—cases like this often go nowhere.”

“So just because he’s rich and powerful, he can do whatever he wants and never get punished?”

Latonia looked at her, her voice gentle but heavy. “Look, Catheleen told me you’re her best friend, so I’m just being real with you. This world isn’t always fair. You’re going to see that more and more.”

“Then what’s the point of laws? Are regular people just supposed to take it when they get hurt?”

Latonia sighed deeply, wishing she had a better answer. “Camilla, I wish I could tell you something to make this right. I wish I could help. But this is just how it is sometimes. I’m so sorry.”
