Dragged into the nursery by Troy, Ayla was finally able to see the baby’s face.
The baby lay in the small crib, lips moving as he sucked, the skin around his mouth pale and almost translucent. His tiny hand was curled into a fist, smaller than an egg. His whole body was a small bundle, fragile like porcelain, and Ayla didn’t dare touch him at all.
Troy was thinking the exact same thing. He didn’t step too close either. After quietly studying the baby for a moment, his expression grew complicated.
Ayla examined the baby’s face carefully. Part of her hoped the baby wouldn’t look like her, so she wouldn’t have to immediately accept that he was hers before the paternity test came back. But she had photos of herself as a newborn, and this baby really did look like her. Ayla’s heart started racing. Troy had actually produced her child.
Troy’s voice suddenly sounded by her ear. “Ayla, this is our child… You’ve always regretted that we lost that baby, right? Now those regrets can finally be made up for.”
Ayla turned around and grabbed Troy’s clothes Hard, staring straight into his eyes as she lowered her voice. “Troy, nobody can replace that child. Not even him!”
Troy looked at Ayla for several seconds and didn’t say anything like that again.
Ayla let go of his clothes. Then, with a hint of resignation, she looked back at the baby again.
That strange sense of responsibility probably came from the child she had lost. Back when she first found out she was pregnant, Ayla had kept reading books about babies, seriously learning how to be a mother. Her feelings toward children had always been complicated.
Troy asked Ayla, “Do you want to hold him?”
Ayla had already resigned herself to it deep down, but she still said, “I will do it after the paternity test was done.”
Troy’s expression immediately changed. “You still haven’t given up. I think Fluffy Winston looks a lot like you.”
Even though Ayla knew the chances were slim, she said, “Until the paternity test results come out. I don’t want to be just anyone’s mom.”
Troy was furious. He stayed silent for a few seconds to calm himself down, then looked at the nurse, “I want to hold him.”.
Ayla frowned, “You don’t even know how to hold a baby.”

Even though Ayla kept saying they should wait for the paternity test, she still couldn’t help worrying. “What if you drop him?”
Troy said, “Then I pick him up. What else can I do?”
Ayla said, “Troy, if the two babies end up in your care, are you going to end up get them killed?”
Troy was livid. “Do you’think I’m insane? No matter how awful I am, I’m not going to get two babies killed by taking care of them. You’re way too anxious. I’m not that unreliable.”
Ayla sneered. “You can’t even take care of yourself, so there’s no way you can guarantee you’ll raise two kids properly.”
Troy said, “I’m their father. How I raise them is what they get. This isn’t a restaurant where you place an order. They don’t get to pick what kind of father they want.”
Ayla took a deep breath. With Troy being this domineering, the kids would definitely end up traumatized if they stayed with him. There was no way she could feel at ease handing the children over to him.
In the end, Ayla chose to compromise. “Don’t hold him yet. Let the nurse take him. He’s still too young. We’ll talk about it when he’s older.”
Troy said, “If you hadn’t said anything, I didn’t even want to hold him. Now that you said it, I really want to.”
“Troy!”
Knock knock!
Someone knocked on the nursery door.
The nurse opened it.
Max leaned halfway inside. “Hey, you two newbie parents, can you not fight in front of the kid? I’ve been watching the show outside for a while. What the hell are you doing?”
Troy
felt embarrassed, “Get out. This has nothing to do with you.”
Max smiled at the nurse. “I’m the baby’s godfather. Can I take a look?”
The nurse was still staring at Ayla and Troy in di belief. She had probably realized they were not exactly model parents. The gentleman standing there with a gentle smile seemed much more reliable.
