At first, Edgar really didn't want to move back home and be controlled by his parents again. But after finding out that Halle's neighbor was James, he suddenly felt threatened, so he agreed.
Still, Halle's careless compromise didn't calm him down. He hadn't let his emotions out, and the frustration kept burning inside him.
After leaving, Edgar went straight to see Nina. Only after a wild round with her did he finally feel a little better.
Now he was holding Nina in his arms and kissing her as he sighed. "You're the best. You're the only one who understands me."
Nina was exhausted. "What happened?"
Her voice was soft and sweet, soothing to listen to. Thinking about the sounds she had made earlier, Edgar felt turned on again. He rolled over on top of her and kissed her all over. "I just missed you."
"Again?"
"You're already a mom... How are you still this delicate?" Thinking about the tears in her eyes earlier only made Edgar want to spoil her even more.
Nina pushed against him weakly, but that only made Edgar want her more. Soon, the two of them were entangled with together again.
Last night, after Edgar left because of Halle, Nina had barely slept at all. She didn't expect him to come looking for her again the very next day.
Nina could tell something was bothering Edgar. When she thought about his words, "You're the best," she realized he was comparing her to someone else. And the only person he could be comparing her to was Halle. That meant things hadn't gone well between him and Halle, which was why he came looking for her.
She had been worried she would never find a way to break through, but now Nina suddenly saw a little hope—Edgar and Halle were completely wrong for each other.
Edgar didn't betray Halle because he didn't love her. He betrayed her because he couldn't handle her personality, so he came to Nina for comfort.
After all these years, they had never fully cut each other out of their lives. That could only mean they had been together for too long. Their bond was almost like family, impossible to completely let go of.
All she needed now was one more push.
Once Edgar became less and less able to stand Halle, he would realize how good Nina was to him. And as long as she kept pleasing him and going along with his emotions, he would depend on her more and more. Slowly, his heart would lean toward her instead.
Halle had always seemed like a strong, independent woman. On top of that, she was hugely successful in her career. There was no way she could accept another woman like Nina staying by Edgar's side. Once Halle got tired of dealing with Edgar, they would definitely break up.
Edgar snapped instantly. "Are you the one paying me, or am I paying you? If I tell you to do something, then do it. Don't act like you can tell me how to do my job, got it?"
From last night until this morning, Edgar had been holding in frustration. He had finally let some of it out with Nina, and now someone else was making him angry again. It felt like everyone wanted to step all over him.
Edgar normally wasn't someone who lost his temper easily, but now he simply couldn't take it anymore. He yelled at his assistant, and the assistant was probably so scared that he quickly promised to change the schedule right away.
Edgar said coldly, "Next time, when I say something, that's the final decision. Otherwise, you can pack your stuff and leave. Do you understand?"
Nina frowned slightly without meaning to. Successful and hardworking men were the most attractive. Honestly, she didn't like how careless and unmotivated Edgar could be about work.
Still, there was no need to worry for now. He hadn't fully taken over the family business yet, so he wasn't carrying all the responsibility. What Nina wanted was to marry Edgar. Once he had completely inherited the family business, she would slowly start putting pressure on him and make him take work seriously. Nina was ambitious. Edgar was only a stepping stone for her.
He stayed with her the entire day. When the mood finally felt relaxed enough, Nina casually started asking questions, trying to find out what exactly had happened between him and Halle.
Edgar grabbed Nina's hand and looked into her soft, gentle eyes. "You'll always stay by my side, right?"
