"I don't believe you've seen my perfect body and still want Edgar." James looked completely confident in himself. "Don't settle for less. Go for the better option."
When a man is too full of himself, it usually makes people cringe. But somehow, when James acted this way, it only made him more attractive. It was because he sounded so honest about it. He truly believed in himself without even a little doubt. When someone is that sure about something, the effect is completely different.
Halle could already imagine how awkward it would sound if Edgar ever said something like that. Of course, Edgar probably wasn't that narcissistic.
Halle said, "There are plenty of men out there. Even if I don't want Edgar anymore, there are still other choices. Who says I have to pick you?"
James raised a brow. "Are you trying to pressure me now?"
Halle looked at James's serious expression and suddenly sensed that he was being sincere. He wasn't just acting on impulse because they had slept together once. So much time had passed, yet he still hadn't given up on her. Honestly, that alone felt unbelievable. Halle knew she was attractive and capable enough to deserve the best. But real life was still about reality. Her family background couldn't compare to James's. A man like him had endless options and could meet all kinds of people. There was no reason for him to spend so much effort on her, especially when she had never really encouraged him.
Rich and powerful men like James usually didn't chase people. They simply chose whoever they wanted. No one would spend that much time and energy on just one person.
After thinking for a moment, Halle asked, "Are you serious about me, or are you just playing around?"
If she truly wanted a normal, lasting relationship, then she needed someone she could control—someone younger, or someone with less than her. James didn't fit either of those.
But if she only wanted something fun and casual, then James was perfect. He was handsome, easy to get along with, and very good in bed.
The problem was, if James wanted a serious relationship, then Halle didn't dare mess with him.
She wasn't the kind of person who could take full responsibility for someone's feelings. If she played around with him and later walked away, James would probably come after her for answers. And when that happened, she might not be able to handle the result.
Halle always thought carefully about risks before doing anything. She was not reckless like Bria, who did whatever she wanted. That was why Halle seemed carefree on the outside, but in reality, she was always very cautious.
If James kept chasing after her, then she needed to think about how to keep their relationship from getting too serious. Otherwise, things would only become more complicated.
James quickly sensed that her question was a trap. He thought for only a second before answering, "That depends on you. If you want something serious, then I'll be serious with you. If you just want to have fun, then that's basically my specialty. I'm actually a very good partner for that."
Halle laughed. "So you are willing to be a lose-making deal like that?"
James didn't care about her teasing at all. "That depends on who the person is. To me, this isn't a loss at all. It's an investment."
