Chapter 162 Breaking Free
Chapter 162 Breaking Free
It was better for Troy to know the truth.
Draven wanted him to understand one thing clearly. Ayla was someone he decided to protect.
He had said everything he had to say. Draven walked away.
Troy stared at his back, a cold smile spreading across his face.

To him, Draven’s noble speech was nothing more than bitterness. He had never gotten anything he wanted. It made him bitter, and it showed.
During the divorce, Troy never saw even a hint of sadness on Ayla’s face. But when she argued with him, her accusations came from a place of caring. She complained because she still cared.
As long as Ayla cared about him, Draven would lose completely.
And even though Ayla walked away so firmly, it didn’t mean she wouldn’t regret it later.
Troy prided himself on reading people. Ayla was stubborn and stood by everything she believed in. When she loved someone, it showed. If she ever truly fell for someone, she wouldn’t forget that person easily. So even if Draven tried to swoop in now, Ayla would never make space for him.
Troy still believed he didn’t need to win Ayla back.
One day, she would come back to him on her own.
And Draven would have no choice but to watch.
Thinking this, Troy rubbed his jaw. The sharp ache hit again.
He pressed his tongue against the cut inside his mouth, then walked off with the same blank expression.
Draven didn’t return to the car right away. He walked back into the courthouse.
The officer had already seen a lot today. A couple so good-looking they could pass for celebrities, and they had almost gotten into a fight.
Now, not long after, another man showed up who looked just as striking.
She took one look at him and knew this one was even harder to deal with.
But then she noticed the faint bruise at the corner of his mouth.
Had he been fighting?
It didn’t match his polished, icy vibe at all.

She wondered what kind of partner a man like him had. She guessed it wouldn’t be an ordinary woman. But after waiting a moment, she realized he’d come alone.
Strange. Just then, the courthouse director stepped out.
He greeted the man politely and led him into an office.
The staff blinked in confusion.
What was going on?
Inside the office, the director pulled out a file and handed Ayla and Troy’s marriage certificate to Draven. “Mr. Storm,” the director said, “they signed a prenuptial agreement, so we collected all the documents related to the marriage.”
Draven nodded. He didn’t bother with the divorce papers. He only took the two marriage certificates and opened them.
Inside were their personal details and their wedding photo.
His eyes landed on the picture. He glanced coldly at Troy first, then moved to Ayla’s face. But his expression didn’t change.
The director watched Draven closely, unsure what he planned to do with this information.
Draven traced the edge of the marriage certificate with his thumb, turning the page slowly. When his eyes landed on Ayla’s photo, his gaze grew focused and quiet.
Ayla from three years ago wasn’t that different from the Ayla now. But there were small changes, sharper eyes, colder edges, and a woman who no longer trusted easily.
Anyone hurt in a marriage would guard themselves against getting close to someone new. Ayla was smart. She had once loved Troy with everything she had. For her to turn around and love someone else with that same openness? Impossible.
At least not right away, Draven wanted Ayla. He wanted her to love him, truly. But he knew this couldn’t be
rushed.
So he held back the wild beast inside him and forced himself to be patient.
Now that Ayla and Troy were divorced, Draven still wasn’t sure if she had lingering feelings for Troy, But it didn’t matter.
What mattered was they had divorced.
That was everything Draven wanted.
He put the marriage certificate away with no emotion.
There was a shredder in the office. He tore the certificate into pieces and fed it into the machine.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
