Chapter 202 The Perfect Excuse

Chapter 202 The Perfect Excuse

Was this a coincidence, or a secret between the two of them?

Kaleb took several more looks.

The star-shaped and moon-shaped ones were very suspicious.

Oh right, there was also a tacky moon-shaped building block on Ayla’s bathroom counter!

Kaleb was extremely sensitive about matters concerning Ayla’s love life. Things that seemed unconnected, he instantly linked together.

Draven wasn’t confessing yet. Could he be working on infiltration?

He was subtly making his presence felt throughout Ayla’s life.

Like persuading him-that was part of the infiltration.

The more Kaleb thought about it, the more likely it seemed. Damn it, he knew Draven was trouble. The guy was as cunning as a fox!

Could Ayla really handle someone like that?

What’s wrong with this brat now? Ayla noticed Kaleb’s extremely displeased look and thought to herself.

Just as she was about to ask, Draven walked out of the study room.

He was as composed and aloof as always. Ayla wisely gave up trying to read anything from his face and didn’t bring up Kaleb’s matter either. Instead, she asked, “Mr. Storm, you knocked on my door earlier. Did you need something?”

Before Draven could speak, Kaleb let out a cold snort behind him.

Ayla prepared to kick him out.

Draven said, “Yes, I do.”

Ayla couldn’t wait to shoo Kaleb out.

He resisted, but she pushed him to the doorway anyway. He said fiercely, “I’m giving you five minutes. Five minutes and I’m knocking on the door.”

Ayla shut the door right in his face.

Kaleb was furious.

Draven watched this scene with amusement. The Ayla before him maintained a secretary’s demeanor- serious and proper, never crossing any lines. Though their relationship was better than at first, there was always a sense of distance.

Chapter 202 The Perfect Excuse

Ayla’s interactions with Kaleb made her seem especially vibrant and alive.

Would she be like this with him in the future?

Draven wasn’t in a hurry to disrupt their current dynamic. His feelings for Ayla were his own business. Forcing her to like him immediately would be arrogant, presumptuous, and disrespectful.

So pursuing Ayla meant doing things her way.

Keeping their distance seemed to be what Ayla preferred, so Draven would naturally accommodate it.

What was harder for him was suppressing the desire to get closer to her, to hold her in his arms.

Draven had to thank Ayla. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have known he was actually just an ordinary man, a man who desired a woman.

As Ayla walked from the door toward him, Draven’s gaze remained on her face the entire time. When she got closer, he spoke, “Troy is investigating whether I’ve invested in Kaleb’s company.”

After hours, Draven had been worried about what excuse to use to knock on Ayla’s door. Troy had just handed him the perfect reason.

Ayla was startled. “Why would he investigate you?”

Draven’s gaze grew heavy as he looked into Ayla’s cool eyes. The corner of his mouth curved subtly, then disappeared in a flash. “I should be asking you that.”

Ayla was speechless.

Draven continued, “Troy suddenly investigated me, so I had Herman look into him. You two met today.”

He asked in a low voice, “Did you say something to him?”

Ayla hadn’t expected to be caught so quickly. Her first reaction was to worry whether Draven would read too much into it. She couldn’t help but study him. His expression showed nothing unusual, which put her

at ease.

But thinking more carefully, Ayla realized something wasn’t right. “I didn’t see Troy.”

She’d only received a phone call from him.

Draven said, “You were both outside the shopping center. Troy was in his car. You were at the coffee shop

entrance.”

Draven could investigate this thoroughly. But now Ayla understood why Troy had suddenly felt inclined to

call and care about Kaleb.

Looking at it now, he’d probably spotted her with Zane, and seeing Zane reminded him of Kaleb’s

situation.

Ayla hadn’t known the truth and had thought Troy had grown a conscience. Turns out she’d been
