Chapter 249 I Am Sorry, Ms Keaton

“Rolf.” Conrad gave Rolf another stern warning.

Rolf looked into Ayla’s calm eyes, searching for any sign of bluff, but he found nothing-her eyes were steady as a lake.

Ayla had once clung to Troy’s side like a shadow but she was different now. She had become an entirely different person. It felt like he didn’t even know her anymore.

They stared at each other for a couple of seconds before Rolf finally caved. Reluctantly, he spoke. “Ms. Keaton, I’m sorry.”

Ayla said, “Louder.”

“I am sorry!”

Ayla said nothing more.

Rolf picked up a full glass of wine, gritted his teeth, and drained it in one go. He wasn’t much of a drinker, and this much wine nearly set his throat on fire. By the time he got the last drop down, sweat beaded on his forehead.

He slammed the empty glass upside down and shook it. “Ms. Kinsman, Ms. Keaton, are you satisfied now?”

Halle clapped her hands once. “Satisfied.”

Rolf looked at Ayla again.

Ayla nodded.

Only then did Rolf sit down.

Ayla looked at him. “You don’t seem to handle your liquor well.”

It was a casual tease, but it hit Rolf much harder than anything Halle had said. He clenched his hand so tightly that the veins popped on the back of it.

He nearly wanted to snap back, but he had to hold it in. This suffocating humiliation was something he had never experienced as a privileged heir. It burned into his memory and filled him with hatred.

Rolf had to work hard to keep his tone level. “Don’t worry, I’ll work on my drinking.”

“All right. When you’ve built up your tolerance, drink with you again.”

Rolf’s face was flushed from the alcohol, but now he looked pale with anger.

He didn’t even know what to say anymore.

If he tried, he knew he wouldn’t be able to keep his emotions in check.

Ayla turned away from him coldly, giving him no more attention.

Halle was amazed by Ayla’s composure, but then again, she was Ayla-nothing about her should surprise anyone.

That was just who she was.

Ayla’s words even left Dustin surprised. He glanced at Ayla and then at Draven, a thoughtful look in his eyes.

Ayla noticed his scrutiny. She was Draven’s “girlfriend” now, so in everyone’s eyes, any sign of closeness would be perfectly reasonable.

But Dustin was a powerful man, and his presence was intimidating. Ayla couldn’t help but feel a little nervous.

Suddenly, under the table, Draven grabbed her hand.

His grip was gentle but firm, grounding her with a quiet strength.

He even squeezed her hand.

There was real strength in it.

It happened so suddenly that Ayla’s heart skipped a beat. She turned to look, but Draven didn’t look at her. His face stayed cold and indifferent, as if nothing had happened.

But his hand was warm.

Draven then shot a commanding look at Lisa.

Seasoned as she was, Lisa still felt a chill run down her spine. She hurried to fill her glass to the brim.

Conrad followed suit, filling his own glass.

Ayla realized Draven didn’t consider Rolf’s apology to be the end of it.

Conrad and Lisa both stood and raised their glasses to apologize to Ayla and Halle.

Ayla figured it was time for her to stand up, too. She lifted her glass politely, but when she

His message was obvious-stay put.

Ayla glanced at him again, only to see that cold, handsome profile.
