James really did have a lot of friends. At least 20 people showed up. Since it wasn’t a formal event, everyone gathered in small groups, chatting casually.
Of course, Draven drew attention wherever he went. A lot of people were sneaking glances at him, but his presence was intimidating, and no one dared walk up.
“Ayla.” Max’s voice sounded beside her.
Ayla turned and saw his smile. He walked over and stopped next to her, blocking Draven behind him. “You’re the one I’m most familiar with here.”
Ayla nodded. “That’s true.”
Only then did she notice the man who’d been fully covered up earlier. Turns out he was a top-tier celebrity from the entertainment world famous for several hit historical dramas and modern shows.
“How’s your week been?”
Ayla pulled her gaze back. “Pretty good.”
“Judging by how you look, I’d say so too.” Max asked casually, “Busy with work lately?”
Ayla didn’t really have much to talk about with Max, so she just went along with it. “Yeah. Work’s been kind of busy.”
Max could tell she didn’t want to chat much, but he didn’t let the conversation drop. “Planning to keep at it long-term?”
“Taking it one step at a time.” Ayla gave a perfunctory answer. Once conversations like this got started, they tended to go deep, and there was no need for that.
Max glanced around casually, then asked, “So when are you heading out?”
That actually caught Ayla off guard. She thought for two seconds and was about to answer when Draven’s voice came from behind her. “Aya.”
Ayla turned straight around and walked over to raven.
Draven lowered his head and looked at her. “Can you get me a glass of water?”
Draven was dressed casually today, with a hint of formality. He still looked refined. At work, whenever he needed something, Ayla always cooperated and paid attention to details. Hearing him say “can you” all of a sudden felt strange.

Chapter 252 Still Felt Very Wrong
“Mr. Storm, if you need something, you can just tell me directly.”
“This isn’t a work setting. I don’t have a reason to order you around,” Draven said.
Ayla immediately understood and asked curiously, “So I can say no?”
Draven looked a little surprised. “Of course.” He glanced at her. “Are you saying no?”

Ayla was just joking. Getting a glass of water was nothing. She didn’t say anything and went straight to the nicely arranged drink station. She poured two glasses of lemonade, one in each hand, walked back, and handed one to Draven.
Draven took it, had a sip, then said, “I’m going to have some alcohol. You don’t drink. Drive us back later.”
Ayla didn’t really have a reason to refuse.
Max was standing right there. He saw their interaction clearly. The smile was gone from his flirtatious eyes. He didn’t claim to know Draven well, but he knew Ayla.
To him, she was an iceberg. With Draven, she was completely different.
When Ayla loved Troy, her eyes had sparkled.
With Draven, it wasn’t the same look she’d had for Troy.
But something still felt very wrong.
Max had come today, planning to have a few drinks with Ayla, then find an excuse to drive her home. Once he knew where she lived, one ride would lead to a second.
Max had been around the dating scene for years. He was confident he could get what he wanted without making Ayla uncomfortable.
But he never expected Ayla to arrive with Drave and to be driving him home later.
Max’s mood sank hard. He’d come in high hope…
He looked away.
Aside from Max, others noticed their interaction too.
Someone asked James, “James, who’s that beautiful woman? Mr. Storm is only interacting with her. No, actually, it looks like no one else can even catch Mr. Storm’s eye.” The friend laughed suggestively. “Don’t keep juicy gossip like this from us.”
James wished they’d get together, but even he was genuinely unsure now. “If I had solid news,

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
