“About two weeks ago, Halle fired a programmer named John. Coincidentally, on the very day John was fired, Ayla was at Halle’s company, and…”

Troy frowned. “And what?”

“And on that same day, Ms. Summer also went to Halle’s company,” Isabella said. “Even more coincidentally, John is Ms. Summer’s college classmate.”

Digging into Ayla and Halle’s backgrounds alone hadn’t been useful.

Back when Ayla demanded a divorce, Troy had even brought Skyla into the company. The best approach was to connect the two.

And sure enough, there really was something there!

Just as she’d expected, Troy was very satisfied with the result. “Got it.”

Even though his tone showed no emotion, Isabella knew she’d done an excellent job.

She looked at the ended call, ambition blazing in her eyes.

She’d stayed up all night and hadn’t slept during the day, but it was all worth it.

She was determined to crush Jed.

Seeing him hang up, Max continued, “Still working this late?”

Troy gripped his phone. The frown between his brows eased slightly, then tightened again. He lifted his gaze and asked instead, “Do you think I’ll regret it?”

Max raised an eyebrow. “How would I know?”

“Aren’t you supposed to know me well?”

“That’s true.” Max thought for a moment. “You probably won’t regret it. After all, you were never into Ayla.”

“I’m not into her, but I think I got used to…” Troy surprised himself. A thoughtful look crossed his face, and he said something he never would’ve admitted before the divorce. “Used to her being there.”

It was only after the divorce that Troy realized he liked and enjoyed the way Ayla used to love him, not the cold rejection she showed now.

A chill flashed through Max’s eyes. He casually grabbed the pool cue standing by his side. A second later, a rogue smile appeared, his voice lower than usual. “But you’re divorced.”

Troy didn’t care. “So?”

“Ayla can’t stay by your side anymore, but now you’re suddenly not used to her being gone. Doesn’t that count as regret?”

Troy pressed his lips together.

He thought of Ayla and Halle…

Max tilted his head again, as gossipy and cutting as ever. “Funny coincidence tonight. I didn’t just run into your ex-wife at James’s place. I also ran into your… Oh, I shouldn’t. You’ll get mad.”

Troy’s face turned icy.

He’d clearly guessed who it was.

Max had no intention of shutting up. “Ayla came with Draven. Draven was carrying two gifts. There’s a good chance they went shopping together to buy James a housewarming gift. And when they left, they left together too.”

“Shut up!” Troy’s face darkened. He felt his emotions spiral out of control again.

Everything Ayla did now kept getting on his nerves.

Max rarely saw Troy this emotional. But realizing Troy was losing it over Ayla being with another man, Max’s gaze cooled even more. His words grew sharper, completely unconcerned with Troy’s feelings. He shrugged. What good does my shutting up do? It already happened. My not saying it doesn’t make it go away.”

He deliberately twisted the knife. “Troy, do you really regret it? If you’d known, you shouldn’t have divorced her.”

Troy had never allowed himself to think about regretting the divorce. With Max saying it so bluntly, he almost wanted to agree.

Yes. He did regret the divorce!

But Troy’s pride wouldn’t allow him to say it.

Because he would never lower his head to Ayla.

So what if they were divorced?
