Ayla had always been like that. And Draven clearly was not someone who fell in love at first sight, so she thought he must have been the same as her. They must have slowly grown on each other over time.
Ayla had asked him about it before, and Draven admitted it, so she never imagined there was another reason. But seeing his expression now... there had to be more, right?
Ayla's heart pounded again.
Was there really something else?
She wanted to know badly.
"Draven, I want to know." Ayla could not wait any longer. "How did you fall for me, exactly?"
Draven's eyes moved across the beach photos on the wall before returning to Ayla. His gaze shifted slightly. "Ayla, the truth is... I knew you before Troy did."
Ayla's eyes widened. "How is that possible?"
The first time she met Troy had been at the beach. If Draven had known her earlier than that, then when?
And if he had known her, there was no way she would not remember him at all.
Draven's eyes were filled with gentleness. "It wasn't three years ago. It was four. You stayed around Twin Moon Beach for a long time. I saw you the whole time."
The moment Ayla heard that familiar beach name, her thoughts were pulled back into the past.
Back then, some time had passed since Juliana jumped into the sea because of depression. Ayla still could not let go, so she kept wandering around Twin Moon Beach. There were many tourists and bright sunlight, but Ayla felt no joy.
Later, she could not hold on anymore. She let herself drift in the water, then tried to swim back, but she had no strength left and nearly got into danger. That was when she met Troy, and he saved her.
After everything, Ayla regretted meeting Troy. But Troy once tried to guilt her, saying that if not for him, she might have died there, and that she should not forget what he did.
Then Ayla suddenly realized something. She quickly turned to the beach photo she had found familiar earlier. When she looked closely, she recognized it instantly.
That was Twin Moon Beach.
It felt like she had been pulled into the picture. Back then, she had been standing there, staring blankly at the sea.
Her figure appeared in the distance, blurry.
Draven's voice was heavy, and his breathing deepened. Every word carried reluctance and bitterness. "I was the one who saw you first. Troy just got lucky."
By then, tears had already slipped down Ayla's face. She threw herself into Draven's arms.
So even without Troy, she would not have been in danger. So she could have met Draven earlier. So maybe she would never have fallen for Troy at all. They had only missed each other by a minute or two.
Ayla wrapped her arms tightly around his waist. "You jerk, why weren't you faster that day?"
The moment Draven heard her voice break, he lost all control. He held her tightly and comforted her in a hoarse voice, "I'm sorry, Ayla. I should have been faster."
Ayla's emotions surged too strongly. She could not say anything.
His large hand stroked her back, trying to calm her.
Draven continued, "That day, when I didn't see you where you usually were, I went looking for you. Then I learned Troy saved you. Back then, I was foolish. I didn't even understand love. I only felt regret that I never got the chance to know you."
"After that day, I never saw you again. I thought I would slowly forget you. But I kept thinking about you again and again without realizing it. Then I saw you at your wedding with Troy. And that was the day I decided to leave the country."

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
