The restless unease in her chest finally settled down.
Bria understood it now. She hadn't been irritated because she wanted to date Kaleb, but because she didn't know what to do next. Now that she'd figured it out, everything felt smoother and clearer. Her mood settled completely.
The movie was nearing its end, and unfortunately, it was a tragic romance. It ended badly.
That was a good sign. If she dated Kaleb, that would end badly too.
She made a mental note of the film. After all, it had given her the perfect inspiration.
She had been the one to pull her hand away.
Bria quietly reached out again.
It didn't take long to find Kaleb's hand. She could clearly feel it stiffen. Even without turning to look, she could guess his whole body had probably gone rigid.
She gave his hand a light squeeze. His fingers were long and well-defined. Not as soft as a woman's, but still kind of fun to touch.
Too bad Kaleb didn't clasp her hand back this time.
So earlier, he'd only grabbed her hand because he thought she'd been startled. Some knight-in-shining-armor instinct kicked in, and he wanted to comfort her.
Still, she had to admit, his instinctive concern made him one of the few genuinely good people she'd ever met. He seemed cold, but he was actually warm and kind. It wasn't that he lacked social finesse. He just preferred things real and unpretentious.
In terms of character, Kaleb was far better than she was.
She had to admit, it was details like that that moved her. Otherwise, why would she care about something so small?
Someone who truly treated you well was incredibly rare.
People who fawned and flattered couldn't even compare.
Bria even felt that if she were ever in serious danger, Kaleb would be the kind to rush in without hesitation. It was hard not to be affected by that.
Unfortunately, the way she and Kaleb first met had been too ugly, too humiliating. She would never return his sincerity in equal measure.
Anyway, this little test proved it. Kaleb was basically a block of wood. He didn't have any special feelings toward her.
But that was fine. Bria wasn't afraid of difficulties. She just hated not knowing what to do. Now that she did, she would move forward with the goal of dating Kaleb. It wouldn't take long to win him over.
So Kaleb really is like a dog. Just give him a little signal, and he'll bite. Winning him over is ridiculously easy.
I only meant to toy with him, and he fell for it this fast. Does he have any idea how cheap that makes him look?

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
