Divorce you and marry him novel Chapter 7

Chapter 7

“I’m not a doctor. Going wouldn’t help.” Katherine’s tone stayed flat.

“Even if it wouldn’t help, don’t you care at all?” Nicholas’ chest rose and fell sharply, as if her attitude had stabbed him. “If I so much as coughed once, you’d panic and stay up all night watching over me! And now? I nearly died, and you didn’t even show your face!”

“You got hurt protecting Ms. Lester,” she said calmly, like she was stating a simple fact. “She can take care of you. And if I go, I might interrupt the two of you and make her uncomfortable.” Her words nearly choked him.

Nicholas snapped, irritated. “What kind of thing is that to say? Sammy is a guest. How could I let her take care of me, undress me, and change my bandages? If word gets out, what would it do to her reputation? Besides, you and I are husband and wife. We don’t need to avoid anything!”

So that was it.

Only when it could damage Samantha’s image did he remember that Katherine was the lawful wife.

The thought was so ridiculous, so bitterly absurd, Katherine almost wanted to laugh.

Just then, something clattered outside the door, like an object had been dropped.

They both looked over. Samantha was standing there. No one knew how long she’d been listening.

Her face was paper-white, her eyes rimmed red. She looked at Nicholas, and tears immediately spilled over as her voice broke into choking sobs. “So… that’s why you wouldn’t let me get close and take care of you these days… Right. I’m an outsider. I shouldn’t have stayed here so long and made everyone hate me… I’ll leave right now!”

After saying that, she spun around and ran, stumbling as she went, her whole back screaming heartbreak.

“Sammy!” Nicholas’ facial expression changed instantly. He didn’t even spare Katherine another glance. He shoved away the people supporting him and hurried after her, not even noticing his wound splitting open again as blood seeped through.

Katherine stayed where she was, staring at the empty doorway, her expression calm and unmoved.

It wasn’t until the next morning that she heard from the maids gossiping that Nicholas had chased after Samantha and comforted her all night. He finally soothed her and then gave an order. From now on, everyone in the household was to treat Samantha like “half a mistress of the house.” No one was allowed to slight her.

Brittany was furious, eyes red with anger. “Mrs. Padilla! How can Mr. Padilla do this? You’re the lady of this house!”

Katherine only gave a faint “Mm” and went back to her work.

Not long after, Nicholas brought Samantha into her room.

Samantha leaned against him, sounding apologetic, but wearing a faint, provocative smile. “Katie, I’m really sorry. Nick told me, even though I’m not the lady of this house, I’m not an outsider either. I can have whatever I want. I told him I like this room you live in, and he said I can have it. So… I’ll have to trouble you to move out.”

Brittany finally couldn’t hold it in and burst into tears. “Ms. Lester! That’s not right! Mrs. Padilla is the real lady of this house. How can you-

“Brittany,” Katherine cut her off gently.

Then she lifted her eyes and looked straight at Nicholas.

A trace of discomfort flashed across Nicholas’ face. He knew the demand was too much. He also

expected Katherine to feel wronged-to cry, to fight back, and to question him.

He’d even prepared a dozen lines to explain and soothe her. “Sammy’s mood is unstable, so she needs a better environment. You’re my wife. You should be generous. I’ll find you a better room later…”

Just as he opened his mouth, Katherine said calmly, without hesitation, “Okay. I’ll clear it out for you right away.”

Nicholas froze.
