Chapter 214 Your Ex–girlfriend
Lara narrowed her eyes in suspicion.
What was going on? Bella was clearly trying to stay under the radar, doing everything she could to avoid being recognized.
And that man with her–who was he? Why on earth would Bella go into a motel with some random guy?
Lara grabbed Vince’s arm. “Come with me. Now.”
“Hey, where are we going?” Vince looked completely baffled.
“The motel across the street!” Lara replied as they headed out.
Vince was practically dragged along, stumbling behind her. For the first time in his life, he felt like some shady criminal sneaking around in broad daylight.
“What exactly are you trying to do?” he asked, frowning.
He’d always carried himself through Washington with swa like the city owed him something. Now, skulking around 1. felt utterly beneath him.
“Keep your voice down. Don’t draw attention!” Lara hissed.
Vince rolled his eyes so hard it hurt.

Did she seriously think they looked less suspicious this way?
Then Lara said something that snapped his attention back completely.
“I just saw Bella go into that motel with some guy,” she said. “It looked super sketchy. We’re going in too–I want to know what’s going on.”
Her instincts were screaming at her. Something was off. Bella and that man–whatever was going on there, it was definitely not innocent.
“Bella?” Vince’s eyes narrowed. He couldn’t stand that woman. If he could dig up some dirt on her? All the better.
And just like that, they were on the same page. The two of them headed straight for the motel.
Not far away, a car was just approaching a traffic light.
In the passenger seat, Charlie Wilson suddenly leaned forward. “Hey, Shawn, your nephew is walking into a motel with so woman. Did he get himself a new girlfriend or something?”
From the back seat, Shawn looked up, casually glancing out the window. Then his eyes widened. His gaze locked onto the woman walking beside Vince.
Even from behind, he recognized her instantly. It was Lara.

Charlie was still talking, oblivious, “Wait, are they seriously going into that cheap little motel? I mean, if your nephew’s taking a girl to a hotel, shouldn’t it at least be a five–star plac
“Turn around. Pull over,” Shawn suddenly said, voice cold.
“What?” Charlie blinked. “Dude, it’s just your nephew and some chick. Do you really need to freak out like this?”
Shawn’s tone dropped to ice. “Did I stutter?”
Charlie glanced at him through the rearview mirror and nearly flinched.
Shawn’s face, usually calm and composed, was dark with fury. It looked like he’d just lost a major case.
Except that was impossible. Shawn, the legal prodigy who dominated the courtroom, had never lost a case in his life.
Charlie, who’d known him for years, had only seen him look like this once before–when his ex–girlfriend called to break up with him. His face had gone terrifyingly dark back then too. And
that…
The memory made Charlie shiver. Who would’ve thought someone as meticulous and well–mannered as Shawn could snap like that?

The driver pulled over. Shawn got out without a word and strode toward the motel. Charlie followed, mumbling under his breath, “Are you seriously about to bust your own nephew? The guy’s a grown man, for God’s sake. And that woman with hi why does she look so familiar?”
He paused. “Hold on. She looks just like your ex–girlfriend
Lara…”
Charlie’s voice cut off mid–sentence.
The air around Shawn seemed to chill several degrees, his entire presence radiating an intimidating coldness.
Charlie swallowed hard.
No way. Is that really Lara?
Back in the day, everyone assumed Shawn would eventually dump Lara.
He was the heir to a powerful law dynasty, practically royalty in the legal world. Lara? She came from nothing. The two of th Totally mismatched.
