Chapter 215 Tell Him the Truth
“What?” Bella’s expression changed instantly.
Pay up? Forty-nine and a half million dollars? Where the nea am I supposed to come up with that kind of money?
She had never actually intended to pay Garrett. Back then, she’d just told him what he wanted to hear to get him to cooperate.
Once Bryce married her, whether or not she was really his so–called savior wouldn’t matter anymore. Even if Garrett told Bryce the truth, she was confident she could spin it and keep the relationship intact.
But the reality was–they weren’t married yet. And if Bryce found out now, everything could fall apart.
“I’m not Mrs. Murphy yet. Do you think I have that kind of money just lying around?” she said, trying to keep calm.
“But you’re still Ms. Sinclair, aren’t you?” Garrett replied smoothly. “If you really wanted to get the money, I’m su could figure something out.
“I’ll give you one month. If you don’t pay up by then, I’ll go straight to Bryce and tell him the truth that you were never his savior, and he’s been played all along. And when that happens, you can kiss your dream of becoming Mrs. Murphy goodbye.”

Bella bit down on her lip, seething.
Garrett was right. The Murphy family already disapproved of her. If Bryce found out she’d lied about something so fundamental, he’d dump her without a second thought.
She couldn’t afford to let this come out–not now. She needed time. First, she’d stall Garrett, and then figure out a way.
“Fine. I’ll pay you,” she said through gritted teeth. “But this deal -whatever happens between us no one else can know.”
“Of course,” Garrett replied, all too pleased with himself.
Meanwhile, in the room next door, Lara was crouched by the wall, a glass pressed tightly against the wallpaper and her ear pressed to the glass.
She was trying to amplify the sound–hoping to catch even a fragment of the conversation beyond the wall—but after a full minute of holding her breath and straining to listen, she still couldn’t hear a thing.
“What kind of crappy motel has soundproofing this go muttered under her breath.
Vince stood behind her, arms crossed, looking exasperated. “So
you dragged me here just to book a room and eavesdrop like some deranged stalker?”

“I just wanted to hear what they were talking about,” Lara retorted. She’d even bribed the front desk to find out which room Bella and that man had gone into.
Vince scoffed, “You’ll be here till next
anything. If you ask me, we should just kick down the damn door and see what Bella’s really up to.”
“Genius, that would spook them!” Lara said quickly.
Just then, there was a knock at their door.
Vince and Lara froze, eyes locking.
“I’ll get it,” Lara whispered.
She tiptoed to the door and cautiously opened it a crack–only
to come face–to–face with the last person she ever wanted to see.
Shawn.
Her heart jumped.
Why is he here? And why now?
Through the narrow gap, he stared at her with that cool, unreadable expression of his.
Lara hesitated, caught between slamming the door in his face
and pretending she hadn’t seen him–or opening it and bracing herself for whatever came next.

Before she could decide, the sound of a door opening in the
hallway startled her. Without thinking, she yanked Shawn inside and shut the door behind him.
“What is going on-” Shawn started, frowning.
But Lara quickly clamped a hand over his mouth, silencing him. She nudged the door open just a sliver and peeked outside.
Sure enough, Bella and Garrett were exiting the room next door.
Garrett was all smiles. “Ms. Sinclair, my patience has limits. One month. That’s all I’m giving you. If I don’t see the money by then, you’ll deal with the consequences.”
Bella glared at him. “Fine. But don’t let me see your face again until then. If Bryce starts getting suspicious because of you, you won’t see a single cent.”
Garrett gave a careless shrug as he watched her leave, then turned and went back into the room.
Lara quietly shut the door and turned back to Vince, wh lounging on the sofa. “Well? You heard that, right? Soi. definitely going on between Bella and that guy.”

“I didn’t hear much,” Vince said, grinning like he was enjoying the show. “But I do know one thing–you’re in trouble now.”
