With that, she turned and walked away without hesitation.
Shawn stood frozen, his gaze fixed on her retreating back, lips pressed into a tight line.
He prided himself on being composed and in control. In court, even in the face of last–minute surprises or hostile witnesses, he stayed cool. His mind never wavered.
But hearing her say she had a boyfriend? His heart clenched in a way he hadn’t expected–tight, relentless, like a vice squeezing
his chest.
The feeling was unfamiliar, and it spread like wildfire his body, confusing and unwanted.

Meanwhile, Riley and Sebastian got into the car.
“How’d you park right in front of the theater?” Riley asked as she buckled in. “I thought you weren’t coming until ten.”
Then her voice trailed off, eyes narrowing.
“Wait… the equipment malfunction that ended the show early- don’t tell me that wasn’t a coincidence.”
Sebastian didn’t look surprised when they walked out. In fact, it wag like he’d expected her to leave early.

“Yeah,” he admitted quietly.
“You did it?” she asked, blinking.
When he nodded, her jaw dropped. “You caused a stage tech failure just to get me out of there early?”
“I didn’t want you watching those men any longer than you already had,” he murmured. “And I definitely didn’t want you getting up close with them.”
He hesitated, then added, “You probably think I’m being petty.”
But he was really scared. If she saw too many attractive men, would she fall for someone else?
He knew Riley wasn’t the type to stray, that she loved wholeheartedly and with sincerity. But fear didn’t al
to reason.

The dark thoughts he tried so hard to suppress always had a way of creeping back in whenever he felt uneasy–feeding that unease, twisting it, until it grew into something he couldn’t ignore.
Riley turned toward him and studied his face. Beneath that usual calm and control, she saw the anxiety he was trying so hard to hide.
She could tell he was anxious about how she would react.

She sighed, gently cupping his cheek. “I only went to keep Lara company. I wasn’t the least bit interested in those men, so you

His lashes trembled slightly. He was walking on eggshells because she mattered that much.
And for the first time in his life, he understood what it felt like to tiptoe around someone–not out of fear, but out of love.
“So, you’re only interested in me?” he asked, his voice low and soft.
Riley’s cheeks flushed.
The driver was still up front, clearly pretending not to hear, but Sebastian was looking at her with such hopeful, puppy–dog eyes.
She wasn’t the type to say mushy things in public, especially with a third party listening, but she didn’t want him second–guessing himself anymore.
“Yes. Only you,” she said simply.
At her words, a rare smile touched Sebastian’s lips. He reached for her hand, gently lifted it, and pressed a kiss to her fingertips. “Then from now on, you can only stay interested in me. No one else.”
Up front, the driver stared straight ahead like his life depended
on it.
Was he supposed to be hearing this? Who would’ve thought that the cold, aloof Mr. Torres could be so adorably insecure in love?

“Oh, and don’t ever do that again, she warned lightly. “If you don’t want me going to those kinds of shows, you can just tell me directly. There’s no need to go full Mission Impossible on a theater’s lighting system. And I really don’t want our issues affecting other people.”
She paused for a moment, then added, “I hope you can trust me a little more–and respect how I choose to spend time with my friends. Watching those performances doesn’t mean I’m into the dancers. I’m appreciating the art, their strength, and the beauty of movement.”
Every relationship went through a period of adjustment, and this was theirs.
Sebastian’s gaze
gaze flickered, softening. “Okay. I hear you. I won’t do that again.”
