As Shawn spoke, he shrugged off his suit jacket and began rolling up the sleeves of his dress shirt.

Lara stared, dumbfounded. What was Shawn doing? Was he going to hit Vince?

She’d seen Vince fight before, and he was tough. Shawn, with his polished, gentlemanly appearance, would surely be the one to get hurt if they actually came to blows.

“Don’t!” Lara cried, rushing to stand between them. “Shawn, so what if Vince and I really did sleep in the same bed? We’re both adults and we didn’t break any laws. What’s the big deal? Why are you being so aggressive?”

Shawn’s expression darkened even more, his lips pressing together. He stared at Lara, who was now shielding Vince. “So, you’ve really fallen for this guy?”

Just as Lara was about to speak, Vince pushed her aside. “Alright, Shawn, cut it out. When I woke up this morning, I was on the floor! But even if we had been in the same bed, I wouldn’t have done anything to her. She’s not the one I like, so why would I give myself away for free?”

Lara had been relieved for a second, but as Vince kep talking53 her anger flared.

Lara was momentarily speechless, then said, “Don’t you forget, Shawn was my ex–boyfriend. If you and I actually slept together, as someone who was almost his wife, how is that not me getting the raw end of the deal?”

“Ahem!” Vince literally choked on his own spit.

Lara really would say anything.

The moment the words left her mouth, Lara realized her mistake. Bringing Shawn into it right now was just making things worse!

“Uh… Shawn, that just came out in the heat of the moment. Don’t mind me,” she said quickly.

“And what if I do mind?” Shawn countered.

His question left Lara speechless. It took her a long moment to respond. “Then what do you want to do about it?”

“Just my bag and my phone,” she replied.

“Where are they?”

She picked them up. “Right here. Why?”

“Let’s go,” he said, grabbing her hand. Then he turned to Vince, “Don’t get so drunk in the future. If something, really happens, you’ll regret it.”

“Got it,” Vince said with a shrug. He watched them leave his apartment and finally let out a breath of relief.

He had finally gotten rid of them. If Shawn had really decided to make a scene, his apartment probably would have been destroyed.

But he noticed the way Shawn was with Lara… Could it be true, just as he suspected? Had Shawn really not gotten over Lara?

When Shawn couldn’t let go of someone outside the family, it never ended well. Never.
