Chapter 266 Breaking My Word
“Hah,” Riley laughed bitterly, tears blurring her vision. “No wonder everyone says Mr. Sebastian Torres is always thinking three steps ahead. I never realized you were calculating even this. So when you made me promise that, you were just covering your bases, weren’t you?”
“I-” Sebastian licked his dry lips. He knew how despicable he was being. But he couldn’t bear to let her go like this.
“Just… don’t leave,” he begged.
“Let go of me.” Riley stared at his hand wrapped around her
wrist.
His voice came out hoarse. “What if I don’t?”
Riley didn’t answer. She just started prying his fingers off her wrist, one by one.
But Sebastian held on tight, refusing to let go even a little.
Her eyes darkened. She grabbed his index finger and snapped it backward with a sharp crack. The bone bent at a sickening
angle.
“Riley, if breaking all 10 of my fingers will make you feel better, go ahead,” Sebastian said, his face pale as a sheet.
“Sebastian, what’s the point of this?” Riley asked, frowning.

“There isn’t a point. But I can’t let you go,” Sebastian said.

Let go.”
Sebastian stayed silent, his grip unchanged.
Another sharp crack filled the room as Riley broke another finger.
Something seemed to shatter in her chest too, the pain shooting through her like it was her own bone that had snapped.
His middle finger… then his ring finger…
She didn’t stop until she’d broken three of his fingers. Only then did her wrist finally slip free from his grip.
But Sebastian didn’t seem to care about his broken fingers at all. He just stared at her desperately. ‘Don’t leave, please. I’ll let you take out all your anger on me however you want.”
“Take out my anger? Will that bring my brother back? Will it erase all your lies and manipulation?” Riley looked down at his three broken fingers. She’d never imagined she could hurt him like this.
“If you don’t want this to get uglier, stop blocking my way out,” she said.
Sebastian stood there frozen, watching helplessly as Riley packed all her belongings into her suitcase.
When she dragged it past him without hesitation and walked out of the bedroom, he suddenly called out.

Riley snapped, “Sebastian, we’re already-”

A dull thud cut her off mid–sentence. She spun around to see Sebastian on his knees, having dropped down hard onto the floor.
“You-” Riley stared at him in shock. She never expected him to actually get on his knees.
“You said you wanted me. So don’t give up on me now, okay? Don’t just walk away like this. I can’t handle it. I messed up once. Just once. Does that really mean I don’t get another chance?”
Riley stared at him, her grip tightening on her suitcase handle. “Some things don’t get second chances, Sebastian. I guess I’m breaking my word. I once told you I’d forgive you for anything as long as it wasn’t illegal. But now I can’t. I just can’t forgive this.”
With that, she turned and walked out of the apartment.
When the door slammed shut behind her, Sebastian felt like his entire world had plunged into darkness.
One mistake… Just one mistake, and he couldn’t be forgiven.
Only one time, and it was over.
Sebastian had regretted it countless times already. Why hadn’t he saved Samuel that day? Why hadn’t he met Riley sooner?
If he’d known her five years ago, if he’d seen Samuel’s photo Back then, maybe he would have recognized him and saved him.
