“You really want to break up with me? You wrote that you wanted me to be safe and happy, that you wanted to grow old with me!” Sebastian suddenly held up the card he was still clutching.

Riley stared at the words she had written by hand. Her chest tightened. Just looking at those words made her heart ache all over again.

“But I don’t know how to face you anymore,” Riley said sadly.

His eyes went dead instantly, like all the life had been drained out of them.

Finally, Sebastian let go of the card.

Felix drove them to the hospital. Riley sat in the back seat, watching the scenery pass by her window. She could feel Sebastian’s eyes on her the entire time.

She stayed quiet, and he didn’t say anything either. The car filled with suffocating silence.
