Chapter 268 Punishment

Riley felt her heart clench again. Just because she was the one who’d said they should break up didn’t mean she could switch off her feelings overnight.
She walked closer and looked down at his familiar face. Even drunk and unconscious, his brows were furrowed in what looked like pain.
Around his right wrist, he wore the bracelet she’d planned to give him for his birthday. The one she’d wanted to put on him herself.
Her eyes started to blur with tears. Just two days ago, Riley had been planning how to celebrate his birthday with him, imagining the moment she’d slip that bracelet onto his wrist. But in just two days, everything had changed.
“Sebastian,” Riley said, leaning down.
“Sebastian!” she called louder.
His eyes stayed closed, with no response.
Riley sighed. She needed to get him to the hospital for his fingers anyway. Since he was out cold, she’d just have to carry him there herself.
As Riley reached for his left arm to lift him up, she suddenly noticed he was clutching something tightly in his left hand. It looked like a card.

Riley froze when she recognized it. That was the birthday card she’d written for him, with all her heartfelt wishes inside.
Her nose suddenly stung.
Riley reached out to take the card from Sebastian’s hand, but his fingers clenched around it like a reflex. Even with his eyes closed, he kept mumbling, “Don’t.. don’t go, Riley. Please don’t leave me.”
He curled his body into a protective ball, clutching the card against his chest like he couldn’t bear to let go of something precious.
Riley stared down at Sebastian and reminded herself why she was here. She was just taking him to the hospital, nothing more.
She grabbed him and pulled him upright. Since his left hand was still gripping the card, she had to use his right arm to support his entire weight against her body.
Sebastian was tall and heavy to begin with, but drunk like this, he was dead weight. Any ordinary woman wouldn’t have been
able to move him at all.
When Riley finally dragged him outside the apartment building, Felix saw them struggling and rushed over to help support Sebastian.
“Riley…” Sebastian kept mumbling her name, leaning more and more of his weight against her body.
Even blackout drunk, his body instinctively moved toward her

As they walked, Sebastian’s lips brushed Riley’s neck, sending a shiver down her spine each time he whispered her name.
Once they got to the car, Felix got into the front seat while Riley helped Sebastian into the back.
She leaned over to buckle his seatbelt, and when she looked up, she found herself staring straight into his bloodshot eyes.
They were still glazed with alcohol but somehow focused on her face.
Riley froze in surprise. He is awake?
Sebastian stared at her without blinking.
When she started to pull away, he instinctively grabbed her wrist with his right hand, the one with broken fingers.
Riley’s body went rigid. She stared down at his damaged hand with complicated emotions written across her face.
With three broken fingers, Riley could easily break free from his grip. But doing that might make his injuries worse.
“Sebastian, let go of my hand first. I don’t want you to hurt yourself more,” Riley said.
“Is this… a dream?” Sebastian stared at her intensely, afraid to let go. He was terrified that if he released her, she would disappear again.

He stared at her for a long moment before whispering, “I don’t need treatment. Think of it as punishment. I don’t care if these three fingers are ruined forever. Riley, I told you before. I’ll accept whatever punishment you give me.”
Riley pressed her lips together. “I’m not trying to punish you. I was just panicked in the moment, so I broke your fingers. That makes it my responsibility to get you to the hospital.”
Felix was sitting in the front seat when he heard this. He was completely shocked.
