Lara fell silent. Riley’s words made sense though. If there really was danger, she would just slow her down.

“Don’t worry about safety. Once I get there, I’ll contact the

local embassy. And since I’m going to Germany to find my brother, the military will provide necessary support too,” Riley reassured her.

“Then you have to call me every day,” Lara said. That was the only way she’d feel okay about this.

“Alright,” Riley agreed.

“When are you leaving?” Lara asked.

“Two weeks. I’m leaving in two weeks,” Riley said. She needed time to handle her visa paperwork and wrap up things at work.

“Does Vince know you’re leaving?” Lara asked.

“I haven’t told him yet,” Riley replied.

“How about we get him tomorrow night? We can all grab drinks together. It’ll help take your mind off things.”

Tomorrow… Riley’s eyes flickered slightly. Tomorrow was Sebastian’s birthday.

Audrey’s photo sat in front of the tombstone. The woman who’d been driven to suicide still smiled brightly in her portrait.

Sebastian placed the bouquet at Audrey’s grave. She had never loved him, but she had given him life. That much he owed her.

“I heard you and Riley broke up?” Gregory’s voice cut through the silence.

“Are you trying to get yourself killed?” Sebastian’s eyes turned ice cold. A deadly chill radiated from his entire body.

“So you’re planning to kill me over a woman who doesn’t even want you?” Gregory raised an eyebrow.

“Touch her and I’ll kill you.” Sebastian’s voice didn’t waver for a second.

If she wasn’t in this world anymore, then he’d have nothing left to hold him back.

“Ha!” Gregory burst out laughing. “Is it really worth it? All this for a woman who can just walk away from you?”
