“He…” Vince hesitated.

“What about him? You said he was fine!” Riley’s voice rose, panicked.

“He is fine, but while you were unconscious, he went back to Russia with Cynthia,” Sebastian said.

Riley froze.

Samuel went to Russia? So now I… `

“I need to go to Russia!” She tried to sit up.

Sebastian pressed down on her uninjured right shoulder, holding her in place. “Do you seriously care about him that much? Have you even thought about the fact that you’re injured? You were unconscious for 24 hours, and you want to wreck your shoulder completely?”

“He’s my brother. Of course I care!” Riley shot back.

Sebastian went still. Right. He was her brother.

He’d always known Samuel was the person she cared about

most, hadn’t he?

“Would you really throw your life away for your brother?” he murmured.

During the twenty–four hours he’d sat by her bedside, he

couldn’t get the image out of his head–Riley covered in blood. And every time he thought about it, his whole body would start shaking.

He didn’t know it was worry, fear, or something worse.

“He’s my brother,” Riley said simply.

It was simple, but it explained everything.

“If you knew it was dangerous, why didn’t you call me?” Sebastian pressed.

Riley’s lips were dry. She wet them before answering, “Things were moving fast, and besides, you don’t owe me anything.”

Especially not after their fight beforehand.

“So you’d rather get hurt like this?” He stared at her. “Do you have any idea what it was like seeing you injured? Riley, how could you… how could you…”

His voice grew hoarse, and the words just stopped coming.

Vince stood off to the side, keeping quiet for once.

Riley looked at Sebastian. He was staring at her hard, but his eyes were full of sadness and something close to desperation, like he was terrified of losing her. Like if something happened to her, he wouldn’t be able to go on.

“I’m sorry I worried you.” The words came out before she could stop them.

Sebastian’s eyes flickered, and he was quiet for a moment. “I’ll arrange a private jet to take you back home. The medical care in the United States is way better than here, and you’ll heal

faster there.”

Riley blinked, surprised.

Vince jumped in. “I agree. You’re hurt, so going home makes sense. Plus, Samuel’s in Russia now anyway, so if you really want to go there, you’d need to go back to the United States first to get your visa sorted out.”

Riley gave a bitter smile. He was right. Samuel was already in Russia, so even if she wanted to go find him, she’d have to go home first.

“Okay. I’ll go back.”

Sebastian straightened up. “The flight’s tomorrow. I’ll have medical staff on the plane with you, so just rest for now.” He

Outside, Felix was waiting. He handed Sebastian a file on the kidnappers who’d grabbed Cynthia.

“We’ve got everything,” Felix reported. “The guy who shot Ms. Anderson is named Gordon. His right hand got shot, and he’s in lockup now.”

“Just his hand?” Sebastian stared at the photo in the file. This was the man who’d hurt Riley so badly. If that bullet had been just a little off, it would’ve hit her heart.

“I want him in prison for life,” Sebastian said coldly. “And I want all four of his limbs broken. Make sure every single day in that cell is hell for him.”

“Yes, sir.” Felix nodded. Anyone who hurt Riley didn’t stand a chance with Sebastian.

Back in the hospital room, Vince looked miserable. “I’m sorry. I should’ve protected you better.”

“What are you talking about? This wasn’t your fault,” Riley said. “If anything, you helped me. We took those down because of you.”

“Of course,” Riley said without hesitation. To her, they were comrades who’d trusted each other with their lives.

A small smile finally crossed Vince’s face. But if that day ever came, he’d never let her get hurt protecting him. He’d rather take the hit himself.

Outside the door, Sebastian watched through the crack, his jaw clenched so tight his teeth were grinding.

She cares about Samuel and even Vince, but what about me?
