Chapter 358 Riley Refused to Go Home

“You dislike staying Zane Lincoln that much?” Benedict said. “My mother likes you. I trust you. Give it time–I can make the adoption official, and name you CEO of Lincoln Holdings.”
For anyone else, the offer would have been staggering.
Zane didn’t hesitate. “But I’m Samuel Anderson. Zane Lincoln was never real–just a made–up identity.”
Right now, all he wanted was to repay the debt he owed the Lincoln family.
When Riley returned home, Lara rushed toward her.
“You are back so late. Did you not leave in the morning? The drive is not that long. I tried calling you and could not get through.”
She had almost called the police.
“We went to meet the head of the Lincoln family on the way
back,” Riley said and then briefly explained everything that had happened after they returned to Washington.

“I could not just sit there and wait to be cornered,” Riley replied.
“That is true. With the way that old man tried to intimidate you, you should have hit him instead,” Lara huffed.
“He helped Samuel. If there had been another way, I would not have lifted a hand against him.”
Riley paused, thinking of how much Benedict resembled Samuel at an older age. The similarity was unmistakable.
“By the way, I need to take a day off tomorrow,” Riley said.
“A day off? Why? Are you not feeling well?” Lara asked,
concerned.
“I need to go to Torres Group and talk to Sebastian.”
“Sebastian? Why are you looking for him?” Lara’s confusion deepened.
“It is about Cynthia.”
“Cynthia? What about her? Did Sebastian not already say publicly that the Lincoln family needs to remove her?”
“They cannot remove her. Not right now. Samuel’s lifesaver has leukemia and needs Cynthia’s stem cells. Because of 2/5 Sébastian, the Lincoln family wants to cast her out,” Riley said.

The woman who had pulled Samuel back from the brink had, in her eyes, saved her too.

The next morning, Riley arrived at Torres Group.
When she told the receptionist she wished to see Sebastian, the staff member answered, “If there is no appointment, Mr. Torres is unlikely to be available.”
Riley lowered her eyes, took out her phone, hesitated, and finally dialed Sebastian’s number.
It rang for a long time before he picked up.
“What is it?” His voice was familiar but distant.
“I need to see you. I am downstairs in your building. Is it possible to meet?”
“If it is business, you can follow normal procedures,” Sebastian
said.
“It is not business. It is personal.”
“There is nothing personal left between us. You were the one who said each of us should go our own way. There is no reason for us to meet now.”

Riley stared at her phone and let out a faint, bitter laugh.

She had been the one to sever things, yet here she was, seeking
him.
After a moment, she scrolled through her contacts and found Felix’s number, saved back when she had served as Sebastian’s bodyguard.
Fortunately, Felix answered quickly.
“Ms. Anderson?”
“Hello, Felix. I want to ask when Mr. Torres might be available today. I called him, but he refused to see me. Could you help me try again?” Riley asked.
“Mr. Torres has two meetings this morning, both fairly long.”
“I can wait,” Riley said at once.
“I will speak with Mr. Torres once the meetings end,” Felix replied.
“Thank you.” Riley ended the call and took a seat in the lobby waiting area.
She waited, though she had no idea whether Sebastian would ever agree to meet her or whether all of this would be for
4/5. nothing.

Waiting was the only option she had.
Time moved by in slow increments as Riley sat waiting in the waiting area. Near noon, Felix came. “I am sorry, Ms. Anderson. I spoke with Mr. Torres, but he…”
“I understand. Thank you,” Riley said.
“Perhaps you should head home for today. You can come back another day, when Mr. Torres is in a better mood,” Felix suggested.
“I would rather wait a little longer. He might be in a better mood later,” Riley replied.
Felix had no further argument and returned to Sebastian’s office. “Ms. Anderson is still waiting,” he reported. “She refuses to go home.”
“Is that so?” Sebastian lowered his gaze. “If she wants to wait, then let her wait.”
“It is almost lunchtime. From what I saw, she does not intend to eat and plans to stay in the lobby. Ms. Anderson’s shoulder wound has not fully healed, and she is weaker than usual. If she keeps waiting like this…” Felix hesitated.
