Chapter 359 Compromise

Felix spoke cautiously as he watched Sebastian’s expression.
As expected, Sebastian’s brow drew together, and a flicker of conflict passed through his eyes.
It became obvious that he still cared about Riley. She was the one person capable of disturbing his composure.
“Bring her up,” Sebastian said, his voice cool.
“Yes, sir.” Felix hurried downstairs and approached Riley. “Ms. Anderson, Mr. Torres will see you now.”
Riley rose at once and followed him to Sebastian’s office.
When Felix knocked lightly and stepped aside, he said, “Mr. Torres is inside. Please go in.”
Riley pushed the door open.
Sebastian’s tall frame came into view.
He stood near the floor–to–ceiling windows, dressed in a white shirt and black slacks. The stark contrast of black and white emphasized the austere beauty of his silhouette. Sunlight traced his outline, warm where it caught his shoulders and cold qyerywhere else.

“What is so important that you insist on seeing me?” he asked.
Riley drew a breath. “Mr. Torres, I want you to retract what you said about having Cynthia removed from the Lincoln family.”
“Mr. Torres?” Sebastian let out a soft, humorless laugh. “You call me that, yet somehow believe I will entertain your request. We have nothing to do with each other now. What makes you think I would agree?”
Riley knew his indifference. She had known it since the day they met.
Even at their very first encounter, he had been cold, as if nothing in the world could touch him.
She had already prepared herself.
It’s fine.
“It is true that I have no right to demand anything from you. But when Samuel was stranded in Germany, a woman named Lina Jensen saved him. He survived because of her. Lina has leukemia and is receiving treatment in Russia. Her stem cells match Cynthia’s.”
Riley held nothing back and stated the reason directly.

Benedict Lincoln, has prepared to hold a press conference in Russia to remove her from the family.”
Sebastian’s face did not change. “What does that have to do with me? Lina Jensen lives or dies. Am I responsible for that?”
“I am not asking you to take responsibility. I am asking for your help,” Riley replied quickly. “I am grateful that you defended my parents that day, but now this concerns the life of someone who saved Samuel. I am willing to swallow past grievances if you can withdraw your demand. At least give Cynthia a reason to agree to the donation.”
Sebastian’s lips curved without warmth. “And if I refuse to?”
Riley forced herself to remain steady. “You agreed to see me. I doubt you brought me here simply to ridicule me. So you can tell me plainly. What will it take for you to help?”
“For Samuel, would you do anything?” he asked quietly.
She held his gaze. “For Samuel, I’ll do anything—as long as it doesn’t risk my life or go against my conscience. If he knew I crossed that line, it would destroy him.”
Her voice stayed steady. “If you won’t agree, I’ll find another way. I’ll either force the Lincoln family to compromise–or convince Cynthia to donate.”

She froze. Before she could speak, he said sharply, “Riley, do not answer. Do not say a single word, or I will agree to nothing.”
She looked at him, startled. His usually unreadable expression trembled at the edges, as if something volatile simmered beneath the surface.
His eyes had darkened, tinged faintly with red, the way they always did when he was pushed to the brink.
He stepped toward her and lifted his hand, brushing her lower lip with a touch that felt too familiar.
If she said she would come back only to secure his help for Samuel, he knew the jealousy would unhinge him.
He had begged her to stay in the past. She left anyway. Now she was willing to compromise for Samuel, yet never for him.
What did that make him?
“Sebastian…” Riley turned her face slightly, trying to avoid his fingers.
He caught her by the jaw, his long fingers drawing a slow line across her lips.
“Come with me somewhere,” he said softly. 4/5

“You will know when we get there. Afterward, I will speak to
the Lincoln family about what you want.”
“All right. I agree.” Riley lowered his hand and said.
“I will pick you up tomorrow morning,” Sebastian said.
“Fine.” She turned to leave. He caught her wrist.
