Chapter 382 Compensation
He didn’t move until the cigarette burned down to nothing. Finally straightening up, he flicked the butt into a trash can and headed to his car parked at the curb.
The engine roared to life as he drove off into the night.
Some things you miss out on become lifelong regrets.
But compared to her happiness? Those regrets didn’t mean jack
shit.
When she’d nearly died in that fire, it hit him like a freight train —as long as she was alive and well, that was all the happiness he’d ever need.

When Lara came out of her company building, she happened to run into Shawn, who had come looking for her.
She pursed her lips, intending to simply walk around him.
Shawn grabbed Lara’s arm. “Still angry with me?”
Lara directly rolled her eyes. “Shouldn’t I be?”
You were too emotional that day. I just didn’t want you to get 15

the firefighters and Samuel hadn’t found Riley in time, if something really had happened to Riley, and I only found out after waking up?”
Shawn said, “I know. If Riley really had an accident, you would have blamed yourself, regretted it, and hated me after waking up. But I don’t regret it.”
“What?” Lara glared angrily. “You actually don’t regret it?”
“Yes, I don’t regret it!” Shawn said calmly. “Lara, I’m not some selfless saint. I can’t just stand by and watch someone I care about throw herself into danger, get hurt, or worse–all for someone else. What I want? Is for you to be safe. That’s it.”
Lara stared at him, stunned. This was the same guy who used to act like she didn’t exist, who only agreed to date her because she’d practically begged.
But now, he was saying these words with such a serious expression, as if she were someone very important to him.
No, I’m not! Lara reminded herself harshly.
They were in a fake relationship. A contract. Nothing more.
He was just making excuses for his “no regrets” bullshit. That’s all this was.

“Shawn!” Lara said irritably. “I need to go to the hospital to visit Riley. I don’t have time for this tugging and pulling!”
“Take back what you just said,” he said with a serious expression.
“What?” She was taken aback.
“Take back what you just said. How can what kind of person I am have ‘nothing to do with you‘? Lara, don’t forget I’m your boyfriend!”
“What boyfriend? We’re just…”
“Lara!” He glared at her, his gaze filled with anger. “You’d better be careful with your words, or I don’t know what I might do.”
She opened her mouth, but in the end, the unspoken words died
in her throat.
“Since you’re angry right now, let’s both cool off for a few days. I’ll come find you again in a few days,” Shawn said, then released Lara’s hand and left on his own.
Lara rubbed her aching arm. Bastard. All that gentlemanly charm, that refined elegance–total act.
Deep down? The guy was nothing but arrogant and controlling.

“Ms. Anderson, these are some materials regarding Cynthia that Mr. Torres had me investigate. Mr. Torres thought they might
be useful to you, so he asked me to give them to you.”
“Then where is he now?” Riley asked.
“I cannot disclose Mr. Torres‘ whereabouts without his permission. However, Mr. Torres said your injuries this time were also connected to him, so he will provide compensation to you.”
“He’s compensating me?” Riley was stunned.
“Yes. This fire was orchestrated behind the scenes by Mr. Torres‘ father, Gregory,” Felix said. “This is the compensation list. Please take a look. If you have any other requests, please feel free to mention them.”
Felix then handed over a list.
Riley didn’t even glance at the list, just stared at Felix. “I don’t need any compensation. But I want to see him!”
“I’m sorry, I cannot decide that. But I will convey your message to Mr. Torres,” Felix said.
Riley frowned slightly. “He doesn’t want to see me?”
Helix hesitated for a moment. “Mr. Torres only wishes for your 5

Felix was taken aback, his eyes flickering. After a moment, he said, “Ms. Anderson, rest assured, I will definitely convey this to
Mr. Torres.”
Riley didn’t say anything more, because the remaining words she wanted to say to Sebastian in person.
After Felix left, Lara approached Riley and picked up the compensation list Felix had given her.
