Divorced CEO's Forgotten Wife Strikes Back (Riley and Bryce) novel Chapter 392

Chapter 392 Stay Here Tonight

"Sebastian, would you get back together with me?" Her lips slowly moved toward his, so close that even her breath felt sweet to him.

He could feel her exhale brushing against the tip of his nose—soft, warm, addictive. It made him want to lean in and lose control.

Did she have any idea how tempting her question was? To him, it sounded almost heavenly. But—

"What if I say no?" His low voice cut through the thick, charged air.

Riley froze. Their lips were only inches apart. If she leaned in the slightest bit, she could kiss him.

"You wouldn't?" she whispered.

Her heart tightened until it hurt, as if someone had pressed cold metal against it.

She had prepared herself for the possibility. He'd been avoiding her again and again, maybe because he didn't want to try with her anymore.

But hearing him say it out loud still felt like being stabbed.

"Yes. I wouldn't," he said.

"You don't love me anymore?" she asked quietly.

He pressed his dry lips together. "No. I don't—"

Before he could finish, Riley lifted a hand and covered his mouth.

She shook her head. "You know I hate being lied to. You don't have to say anything, but don't lie to me."

Sebastian went silent. He didn't try to argue.

"If you still love me," she said, "then why won't you be with me again?"

He held her gaze for a long moment. Then he gently lowered her hand from his lips. When he finally spoke, the words trembled at the edges. "Because I don't want to be abandoned again."

If he was destined to be left behind, he'd rather never hope in the first place.

"I'm not leaving you again," Riley said urgently.

Sebastian's eyes stayed on hers, dark and unreadable. "Maybe you won't choose to leave. But what if something forces you to? What if you don't have a choice?"

Riley's breath caught.

Sebastian reached for the switch on the wall, flicking on the lights.

The room brightened instantly, spilling over them both.

It was only then Riley truly saw him—thinner than before, paler, with deeper shadows beneath his eyes.

His insomnia clearly hadn't improved.

Riley let out a long breath as she looked at herself in the mirror above the sink.

At the very least, Sebastian had given in. He was staying with her tonight.

But what about after tonight?

If he really didn't want to get back together, he had a dozen ways to avoid her.

Still, as long as he loved her, she'd do whatever it took—fair or not—to ease his fears and make him willing to try again.

While washing up, she kept thinking about what she should say next to calm him down.

Just then, someone knocked on the bathroom door, and Sebastian's voice came through. "Felix brought your suitcase up."

"Okay, got it," she said. Perfect. She needed clean clothes anyway.

When she finally finished getting ready and changed into her pajamas, she stepped out and saw Sebastian shaking a pile of pills into his hand.

Riley practically threw herself at him. With her casted leg, she moved awkwardly, almost stumbling.

But she still managed to grab his wrist in time, sending most of the pills scattering to the floor.

"Sleeping pills again? And that many? Do you have any idea how dangerous that is?" Riley glared at him, torn between panic and anger.
