Chapter 405 Unspoken Fears
With that, Lara ended the call. Moments later, Riley's phone buzzed with several video links Lara had sent over.
She casually tapped on one, and the content immediately made her eyes widen as her face flushed crimson.
Oh my God. The "tips" Lara had sent were porns!
On her phone screen, a man and woman's bodies were tangled together in ways that made her face flush hot. The sounds coming from her phone—kissing, heavy breathing—made Riley feel like the air around her was heating up.
She should turn this off. If Sebastian saw this...
"What are you watching?" Sebastian's voice cut through the air without warning.
"Ah!" Riley yelped, and her phone slipped from her grip, clattering to the floor.
She tried to retrieve it, but the cast on her right leg made it awkward to bend down.
Another hand was faster, scooping up the phone before she could reach it.
The video's explicit imagery reflected in those dark eyes.
"Am I interrupting something?" His voice was cool, detached.
"No... no!" Riley's face burned with embarrassment as she hastily snatched the phone back from Sebastian, frantically trying to close the video.
But the more flustered she became, the clumsier her fingers grew. What should have been a simple tap took her nearly ten seconds before she finally managed to close the video.
Riley's face was scarlet, while Sebastian remained perfectly composed—as if what he'd just witnessed was nothing more than an ordinary cooking tutorial.
"You're interested in that sort of thing?" he asked, his tone neutral.
"I'm not!" she denied quickly. "Lara thinks I'm... inexperienced with this stuff, so she wanted me to study up. That's why she sent it."
The moment the explanation left her lips, Riley wanted to bury herself alive. What am I even saying?
And why was she explaining herself anyway? She was a grown woman. Even if she had been watching that kind of content, so what?
"You don't need to study anything," Sebastian said quietly. "If you weren't comfortable before, I'll be more careful next time. More... accommodating—if you want there to be a next time."
Riley stared at him, stunned.
He was acting like he was the one who needed to win her over.
"Your wounds are healing well," Thomas said after finishing his examination. "The cuts have all scabbed over. You won't need bandages anymore."
Sebastian pulled his shirt back on, methodically buttoning it.
"By the way, how are things with Riley? Have you decided to get back together with her?" Thomas asked curiously.
After finishing with his clothes, Sebastian looked up with a sardonic expression. "What do you think I'd do if we got back together and then broke up again?"
"Huh?" Thomas paused, then murmured after a long moment, "That's impossible. Riley would never break up with you again."
"Nothing's impossible in this world." Sebastian's smile was bitter. "Just like how I once thought I could keep certain secrets from her forever. I thought I could control everything. But it turns out, the more you care about something, the easier it is to lose it."
"You're—you're refusing to get back together with Riley because of that?" Thomas's brow furrowed.
"If we broke up again, I'm afraid it would end with either her death or mine. My father is a madman. Maybe I'm no exception."
Since that wasn't the outcome he wanted, the best thing to do was stop it from happening in the first place.
"But what if Riley insists on being with you? Can you really keep rejecting her forever?" Thomas asked skeptically.
