**TITLE: Dreams Refuse Gravity by Leo Arden Knox**
**Chapter 44: Please Forgive Them**
“Riley, I truly apologize. I realize now that I shouldn’t have doubted you just a moment ago. It’s just that my concern for you got the better of me,” Bryce said, his voice laced with regret.
“Worried?” Riley scoffed, a bitter laugh escaping her lips. “You honestly believe I could trust anything that comes out of your mouth after everything that’s happened?”
Bryce’s expression flickered with embarrassment, his cheeks flushing slightly. “Listen, I understand that Mom and Claire hurt you deeply. But at the end of the day, they are still family. If you could just write a forgiveness letter, we could leave all of this behind us and start fresh.”
“I refuse to write any forgiveness letter, Bryce. What they did to me? That’s something I’ll never be able to forgive,” Riley shot back, her voice firm and unyielding.
Bryce’s face twisted in frustration. “But they’re my mother and sister!”
“And what does that mean for me? Just because they share your blood means I have to overlook the pain they caused? Do you even grasp the magnitude of what could have happened if their plan had succeeded yesterday?” Riley’s voice rose, her anger palpable.
“Two complete strangers would have taken advantage of me, all to ensure I left the marriage with nothing,” she continued, her eyes blazing with fury.
“You still want me to forgive them? Want me to simply let it all slide?” Riley’s pointed questions struck Bryce like a physical blow, leaving him momentarily speechless. The disappointment etched on her face, combined with the icy glare in her eyes, made his chest tighten as if a heavy weight had been dropped upon him.
After a painfully long silence, Bryce managed to speak, his voice rough and raw. “I swear this won’t happen again. Just this once, please find it in your heart to forgive them. My mom is getting older. She can’t handle this kind of stress anymore. And Claire… she’s still young. I don’t want her to have a criminal record.”
Riley sneered, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “So, I’m just the one who gets sacrificed on the altar of family loyalty?”
