**TITLE: Dreams Refuse Gravity by Leo Arden Knox**
**Chapter 49: Cry Like a Baby**
Bryce’s eyes widened, shock coursing through him like ice water.
**Lucky Draw**
So, Mr. Brunson has decided to block my path to a lawyer? What could his motives possibly be? Is he genuinely trying to assist Riley, feeling some misplaced sympathy for her, or is there something deeper at play?
This man seems to know everything there is to know about Riley—her military research, her expertise with drones, the entire spectrum of her accomplishments. Yet here I am, her husband, completely in the dark.
Suddenly, a memory flickered in Bryce’s mind—a conversation with the manager who had pulled the plug on his project not too long ago. “Mr. Murphy, you really don’t know your wife at all!” The words echoed in his mind, and for the first time, he began to grasp the weight of that statement.
Once Vince departed, it was as if a wave of discomfort washed over the room, prompting everyone else to concoct excuses to leave.
Nathan shot a venomous glare at both his niece and Bryce, his voice dripping with disdain. “You know, Mr. Brunson has served his time in the military. The way he spoke about Riley just now… It sounds like she might have served as well. They could have a history together.”
Bella’s jaw dropped, her eyes wide with disbelief. “Uncle Nathan, are you suggesting that Mr. Brunson and Riley are close?”
“Mr. Brunson doesn’t just stick his neck out for anyone. It might be wise for Mr. Murphy to steer clear of him in the future,” Nathan warned, his tone grave.
Bryce felt his complexion drain, his face turning as pale as freshly washed linen. The private room that had once buzzed with energy now felt desolate, leaving only Bryce, Bella, and Kieran behind.
Kieran, nursing an aching chest, muttered under his breath, “This Riley is full of surprises. She’s got a guy to fight her battles? A man and a woman that close? I’d wager they’re more than just friends in bed!”
Bryce’s temper flared, and he snapped, “Kieran, Riley is my wife! For God’s sake, show her some respect!”
Kieran’s eyes widened in surprise, and he retorted, “What’s gotten into you, Fou? I’ve been talking about Riley like this for ages, and you never batted an eye. Don’t tell me you’ve actually bought into Vince’s story and think Riley was the mastermind behind your company’s success. If she’s really that good, I’ll eat my shoe!”
Kieran’s disdain for Riley remained as steadfast as ever.
But Bryce and Bella were on a different wavelength. They understood that a guy like Vince wouldn’t fabricate stories about something so significant.
“Alright, I’ll call you a cab. You need to get those injuries checked out,” Bryce said, his voice steady but laced with concern as he addressed Kieran.
The three of them exited the club, and as Kieran hopped into the waiting cab, Bryce turned to Bella, a pained expression etched on his face. “I’ve let you down, haven’t I?”
Bella shook her head, her eyes softening. “Of course not. But Riley is truly something else. She’s been married to you for three years and has kept her military research achievements a secret all this time. If she’s genuinely an expert in drones, she must have some patents.”
“If I were her, I’d leverage those patents to benefit your company,” Bella suggested, her voice laced with determination.
Bryce froze, the word “patents” echoing in his mind.
**Lucky Draw**
If we have some patentable technology that aligns with what the company is doing, then…
A spark ignited in Bryce’s eyes.
“Also, I’ll figure something out regarding the lawyer. Even if those high-profile firms won’t take the case, there are bound to be other lawyers willing to step up. Don’t stress,” Bella assured him, her tone encouraging.
“Thank you, Bella,” Bryce replied, genuine gratitude flooding his voice.
“I just want the best for you,” Bella smiled, her expression warm.
