**TITLE: Dreams Refuse Gravity by Leo Arden Knox**
**Chapter 51: Can you be my toy?**
“Let’s run some shots. Call it payback for the clothes, Ms. Anderson.”
Riley felt a spark of determination ignite within her. Her lips pressed into a thin line, betraying her thoughts before she finally relented, “Fine. How many rounds are we talking about?”
“Five rounds, ten shots each,” he replied, a playful glint in his eyes.
As if on cue, one of the staff members approached, dropping a handful of bullets and a pair of ear-muffs in front of Riley.
She gazed down at the gun, and a wave of nostalgia washed over her like a tide, pulling her back to memories she thought she had buried.
With practiced precision, she checked the pistol, her fingers moving with a familiarity that felt almost instinctual. Loading it up, she slipped the ear-muffs over her ears, shutting out the world around her.
Though it had been ages since she had last held a firearm, her body remembered every nuance of the experience. Her hands were steady, her grip firm, as she raised the pistol, focusing intently on the target that stood defiantly in the distance.
With a slow, measured breath, she aimed and pulled the trigger.
The sharp crack of the gunshot echoed through the air, a sound that was both exhilarating and grounding.
Riley’s gaze remained fixed ahead, her expression a mask of calm that belied the steely resolve of a seasoned soldier.
Even after hanging up her military boots, that indomitable spirit clung to her like a shadow, refusing to let go.
As the rounds progressed, the first, second, and third all flew by in a blur of adrenaline and focus.
Riley and Sebastian took turns at the shooting range, their scores neck and neck, the competition igniting a thrill akin to that of a high-stakes horse race.
Finally, after the fifth round, Riley set the gun down, exhaling a long, relieved sigh.
This was merely a friendly shoot-off with Sebastian, yet it reignited a long-dormant sense of exhilaration within her, a feeling she had almost forgotten.
Sebastian cast a sidelong glance at Riley, captivated by her presence.
“You’re the best female shooter I’ve ever seen,” he said, admiration lacing his tone.
Riley offered a polite smile, though her eyes hinted at modesty. “Thanks. But back at the military base, there were loads of female soldiers who could outshoot me. I’m no big deal.”
“I’m genuinely intrigued by you,” Sebastian continued, leaning in slightly, his curiosity palpable. “What on earth made you choose Bryce?”
At the mention of Bryce, Riley’s expression darkened, shadows flitting across her features. “That’s my business. Don’t think I owe you an explanation,” she shot back, her tone icy.
“What if I don’t like Bryce and decide to take him down? What will you do then?” Sebastian pressed, his gaze unwavering.
“Do whatever you want. It’s your call. I won’t lift a finger,” she responded nonchalantly, shrugging it off as if it were a trivial matter.
“So, you don’t care about Bryce anymore?” he asked, locking his eyes onto hers, searching for a flicker of emotion.
Instead of answering, Riley simply turned on her heel and walked away, the tension thick in the air.
But just as she took two steps, Sebastian’s voice sliced through the silence. “You might not care about Bryce, but what about Vince?”
Riley froze, her body going rigid at the mention of Vince.
