Chapter 142 Heartfelt Comfort in the Office
Mabel was always so thoughtful. She had nothing but Peyton and Quinn’s best interests at heart.
“Thanks,” Quinn said softly.
“It’s the least I can do,” Mabel replied with a warm smile.
Finishing
Quinn headed to the dining room, ready to sit down for a bite. But no sooner had she taken a seat than her phone started ringing. She picked it up-Leo was calling.
Leo had been at the engagement party too. He’d watched the whole disaster unfold, every second of it
But he hadn’t lifted a finger to intervene. After all, he was just an outsider. Stepping in to help would’ve only dragged her into more gossip. So he’d stayed quiet in the corner, his heart breaking as he watched the woman he cared about suffer through the chaos.
“Quinn, we’ve got a problem with the project,” Leo said, his voice tight with urgency. “Can you come down to the office? I need to talk to you in person. Bring your assistant too.”
A key set of data had gone wrong. They needed Quinn to fix it. She was the only one who’d handled the patent-related figures. There was no way he could sort this out on his own.
“Got it. I’ll be right there,” Quinn said without hesitation. She knew Leo wouldn’t have called unless it was
serious.
She had to get to the office fast. The sooner they fixed the issue, the happier their client would be. Quinn hated dragging her feet on work-she believed in tackling problems head-on.
“Miss Hart, at least eat something before you go,” Mabel urged, her brows furrowed with worry. “You look worn to a frazzle these days. You haven’t had a proper rest in ages. Work can wait-your health can’t
“I’m fine, Mabel. I just need to check what’s going on,” Quinn assured her, grabbing her bag. “If it’s not too bad, I’ll be back to rest as soon as we fix it. Don’t worry about me.”
Her heart felt warm. Mabel was such a caring soul-she always looked out for them.
Quinn left the house and headed straight for Leo’s office. When she arrived, Mia was already waiting outside the building.
“Miss Hart! Thank goodness you’re here,” Mia said, rushing over, her face flushed with anxiety. “I heard about the data glitch and came right away. I swear I tried to fix it myself. I never would’ve bothered you if I could’ve handled it.”
Mia knew all about the drama with the engagement party, knew Iris was still in the hospital. The last thing she wanted was to add to Quinn’s stress, but she’d had no choice.
“It’s okay, Mia. I don’t mind coming in,” Quinn said gently, trying to calm her down. “You weren’t trained to handle this kind of data work. Probably just a small glitch in the system that messed things up. It’s no big deal. No need to panic.”
She could see how guilty Mia felt, so she hurried to reassure her. The mistake wasn’t Mia’s fault at all.

Chapter 142 Heartfelt Comfort in the Office
Finished
The two of them walked into the building together and headed straight for Leo’s office. When they pushed the door open, a handful of other people were already there-experts Leo had called in to lend a hand.
“There you are,” Leo said, standing up as soon as he saw her. “Have a seat. These are some friends of mine. They’re whizzes with this kind of stuff. Between all of you, we’ll get this sorted out in no time. I wouldn’t have rushed you over if it wasn’t time-sensitive.”

As he looked at Quinn, his eyes softened with concern. He hated seeing her like this-tired, stressed, carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. He wished he could do more to help her, to take away some of her pain. But he was stuck in the friend zone, always watching from the sidelines. He couldn’t step forward without risking everything.
“Thanks, Leo,” Quinn said, a small smile tugging at her lips.
“Don’t be silly-what are friends for?” Leo said, waving off her thanks. “You two get started. I’ll grab everyone some water.”
To Quinn’s surprise, Leo personally fetched the glasses and poured the drinks.
And on his desk, she spotted something that made her heart skip a beat-her favorite pastries and snacks. Back in the day, when they’d hung out all the time, she’d always reached for these treats whenever she was feeling down. Leo had always remembered to keep them handy for her.
After all these years, he still hadn’t forgotten.
“Quinn, don’t dive straight into work,” Leo said, picking up a pastry and handing it to her. “You’ve got plenty of help here. Take a minute-eat something first.”
Quinn smiled, warmth spreading through her chest. She couldn’t believe he still remembered these little things about her.
“Thanks, Leo. This is really sweet of you,” she said.
“Of course I remember,” Leo said, returning her smile. But his heart ached inside. “Your likes and dislikes- they’ve always stuck with me. What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t pay attention to that stuff?”
No matter what happened, he would always be there for her-quietly, faithfully, as just a friend. It was a role he’d accepted long ago, even if it broke his heart a little more every day.
