“No need. Miss Hart, really!” Mia said, quickly shaking her head. “I can just take a taxi home by myself. It’s not that late yet-there’s no danger. I’ll give you a call once I get there.”
She couldn’t bear the thought of being alone with him. It would only make her feel awkward for no reason at all.
“It’s fine. I’ll drive you home.” Leo insisted firmly, pulling her toward his car without hesitation.
The driver sat up front, but the backseat where Mia and Leo sat was thick with awkward tension. Mia stared out the window, not knowing how to face him.
Leo was busy dealing with work matters on his phone the whole ride, the device buzzing nonstop with notifications.
He’d had an important meeting scheduled for tonight. But when Quinn called to invite him to dinner. he’d dropped everything in an instant. After all, Quinn was the most important person in his heart.
Mia’s apartment wasn’t far from the restaurant. It only took about ten minutes to get there.
Thank you for driving me home, Mr. Harrison,” Mia said, scrambling to get out of the car. “Drive safely on your way back. I’ll head upstairs now.”
She was desperate to escape this situation. Every time before she met him, she’d rehearse exactly how to act and what to say.
But when it came down to actually being with him-especially alone-she always froze up, running out of things to talk about.
“You’re welcome. Get some rest,” Leo replied, watching her retreating figure with a complicated expression. He had no idea what to do next.
If it were anyone else, he would have turned them down flat without a second thought. But Mia was different. She was Quinn’s best friend, and they worked closely together every day.
If he rejected her too bluntly, it might strain his relationship with Quinn. He knew Quinn well-she always took things onto herself. If he was too straightforward, Mia would be heartbroken, and Quinn would blame herself for it.
On his way back, he pulled out his phone and called Quinn.
“Leo? Did you get Mia home safe and sound?” Quinn asked as soon as she picked up
“Of course I did, Leo said, his tone completely different from usual-no more jokes or teasing, just serious and direct.
“Quinn, I need to ask you something, and I want you to be honest with me,” he said. “How does Mia feel about me? Does she have a crush on me? Don’t laugh-can see it clearly now.”
He knew he had to get this out in the open as soon as possible. Otherwise, it would only cause more problems and strain their friendship.
He hadn’t dated anyone all these years because his hear had always belonged to Quinn. Even when they’d

“Leo, since you’ve already figured it out, I won’t lie to you,” she admitted gently. “Yes, she does have feelings for you. But she’s a very sensible girl. She’ll never confess to you impulsively, and she’ll never bother you with it. So I hope you won’t overthink this. Let things take their natural course.”
“Mia is a really good person, you know,” Quinn continued. “And I know you-you’ve never cared about someone’s background or status when it comes to relationships. If you clicked with someone, you’d be with them, no matter who they are.
“I think you should give her a chance. She’s truly wonderful-hardworking and sincere. Otherwise, I would never have kept her by my side for so long.”
Quinn was only telling him this because he was her good friend, and she trusted his character.
But Leo already had someone in his heart. He had no desire to pursue anyone else.
“I know she’s a great girl,” Leo said firmly, his voice leaving no room for negotiation. “But we’re not a match. It’s not about her background-it’s about us. We’re just not right for each other.”
“Why not, Leo?” Quinn asked, confused. She thought of her own relationship with Peyton-they’d started as strangers, and now they were so close. “You haven’t even given her a chance. How can you be so sure it won’t work?”
