The more Quinn thought about it, the more confused she felt. She still wasn’t sure how to act around Peyton.
The next morning…
Quinn got up extra early, eager to head to the Reed Manor and spend time with Iris.
Peyton was already up too. He wore casual clothes today-less formal than usual, but still devastatingly handsome.
“Let’s have breakfast. We’ll leave right after,” Peyton said, checking the time. Their drive to the Reed Manor would take a while, so they needed to get an early start.
Just as they finished breakfast and prepared to leave, the doorbell rang suddenly.
Mabel went to answer it.
“M-Miss Parker…” Mabel froze when she opened the door, completely unprepared for the unexpected visitor.
Wendy was sitting in a wheelchair, followed by two housekeepers.
“Mabel, I’m here to see Peyton. Is he home?” she asked.
Mabel panicked. Quinn was still in the house, and having another woman show up unannounced put her in an awkward spot. She didn’t know how to handle the situation.
Peyton also froze when he saw Wendy, clearly surprised that she’d come on her own.
“Wendy, why did you come out suddenly?” he asked, his tone cautious.
“Peyton, I know today’s your grandma’s birthday. I want to come with you to celebrate with her,” Wendy said, holding up a gift bag excitedly. “Everyone has always taken good care of me, especially your grandma. She’s been so kind to me.
“I even prepared a gift for her. Please take me with you!”
Since entering the house, Wendy’s eyes had been fixed on Quinn. The sight of the two of them sitting together, having breakfast so comfortably, felt like a knife twisting in her heart.
This is supposed to be my life, yet this woman has taken it all!
Why?
Wendy struggled to hold back her jealousy and resentment, forcing herself to stay calm.
If she hadn’t come here today, she would have never known they were already living together-and seemingly so happily.
“It’s a family dinner. It won’t be convenient to bring you,” Peyton replied firmly.

“Wendy, didn’t I tell you? If you want to go out, you should let me know in advance. I’ll arrange for someone to take you. Why did you come here on your own today?”
Peyton could roughly guess her motives. He knew exactly what she was up to.
Quinn watched them silently, confusion clouding her eyes.
She recognized Wendy’s voice-it was the same woman Peyton often talked to on the phone.
She’d never expected Wendy to show up at their door uninvited. She wasn’t sure what to make of it, but she’d heard Wendy mention that Iris had been kind to her.
No matter what their relationship was, it was clearly more than just casual. There must be things between them that Peyton hadn’t told her.
A strange unease settled in Quinn’s chest. It felt like the man beside her was hiding a lot from her.
We aren’t officially engaged yet, but our wedding plans are already set. Shouldn’t he be honest with me about these things?
“Peyton, I only remembered your grandma’s birthday last night,” Wendy explained, her voice soft and innocent. “I had to rush to prepare the gift. I was afraid you’d be too busy to come pick me up today, so I came here myself.”
“Did I interrupt you two? If I did, I’m truly sorry,” she added, glancing at Quinn deliberately.
Peyton didn’t think she was interrupting them. He just disliked her making decisions without consulting him.
“I’ll take your gift to Grandma for you, but it’s not convenient today. I’ll arrange for someone to take you to see her another time,” he said coldly.
Today wasn’t just a family dinner. It was also when they would discuss his and Quinn’s engagement.
He saw no reason to have Wendy there. Her presence might cause unnecessary trouble. Besides, once Quinn became his fiancée, it would be inappropriate for him to bring other women to family events.
He needed to put an end to this once and for all.
Disappointment was evident on Wendy’s face. She glared at Quinn with hostility, seeing her as her biggest
rival.
If it weren’t for this woman, Peyton would be mine and mine alone No one could take him away.
She’d noticed a clear change in Peyton’s attitude toward her lately. It had started ever since Quinn came into his life.
