"Screech—"
Flint slammed on the brakes, the piercing sound tearing through the air.
Shanley was thrown forward sharply, instinctively protecting the cake in his hands, his face instantly darkening like thunderclouds.
"Boss, I'm so sorry."
Flint's heart stopped for two seconds, and he rushed to explain, "Some random person just jumped out of nowhere."
"Go out and check," Shanley ordered coldly.
"Yes, sir."
Flint quickly grabbed an umbrella, stepped out, and walked to the front of the car, leaning over to ask, "Are you alright?"
It was a good thing they had just started moving, so the speed was low.
Otherwise.
She'd be checking in with the Grim Reaper right now.
"I'm fine."
The girl clutched her scraped arm and slowly lifted her head.
In a flash.
Flint's eyes widened, and he leaned in closer.
Wait a minute...
Why did this blind pedestrian look a bit like Ms. Payne?
But looking closer.
Although there was a resemblance, she couldn't compare to Ms. Payne at all.
One was the authentic masterpiece, the other a cheap knockoff.
A knockoff that looked like it cost three bucks at a dollar store.
"Boss, she's..." Flint turned his head back to the man in the rear seat.
The window rolled down, and Shanley's handsome face appeared in the girl's line of sight.
She took a deep breath, nervous yet thrilled.
Exactly.
Mr. Schwartz was looking at her.
Staring unblinkingly at her.
Shanley's sharp features and icy gaze held zero emotion, yet his deep eyes were locked onto her.
"Mr. Schwartz."
The girl quickly waved her hand, moving closer to the window, brushing her hair aside to reveal her full face, and offered a soft smile. "I lost my footing and accidentally bumped into your car."
Sheryl had arranged special training for her.
Her mannerisms, voice, posture... even her smile were designed to mimic Juniper Payne perfectly.
If so, why did he just leave?
If not...
Why did he stare at her so intently?
A long while later.
The girl pulled out her phone and dialed Sheryl's number, asking timidly, "Did it work?"
"Very nicely done."
Sheryl sat in a nearby coffee shop, holding a pair of binoculars, having witnessed the entire scene.
Shanley was like an untouchable deity sitting high above, out of reach for mortals.
And his eyes were completely blind to anyone but Juniper.
Even for Sheryl.
She had never received a proper glance from him.
Sheryl had no doubt that if she were the one standing in front of him.
He probably wouldn't even recognize her.
"Shanley looked at you for a long time." Sheryl was both angry and intensely jealous, a cold, mocking smile playing on her lips. "Next time you see him, I'll arrange for you to get into his bed."
"So soon?"
The girl's heart pounded wildly; she nearly dropped the phone. Guiltily, she said, "Isn't that too fast? Even though Mr. Schwartz looked at me, his eyes were full of..."
