Luella was so excited she almost jumped up to thank Shanley, but remembering his earlier words, she sat back down. "Thanks, Shanley," she muttered softly.

"I did it for Juniper," Shanley replied flatly.

"I know, I know." Luella poured Juniper a glass of water, grinning. "Let me serve you, Princess."

Just as she was mid-compliment, a waiter's voice drifted from the entrance. "Right this way, Mr. Tate!"

Luella's hand jerked. She looked up. It really was that pretty boy.

What was he doing here?

"Jimmie?" Juniper was equally surprised to see him.

On the way here, she'd gotten a call from him saying he was back in the country after wrapping up work and asking where she was. She told him she was grabbing dinner with Luella at Moonlight Peak. Knowing the two of them couldn't stand each other, she had deliberately emphasized that Luella was there.

She hadn't expected him to actually show up.

"Hey, pretty—" Luella caught herself, swallowing the insult. She adjusted her expression. "Jimmie. You're back?"

"Yeah." Jimmie set his bag down, took the seat right next to Luella, and casually picked up the water glass in front of her.

"Hey—" Luella's eyes widened. She reached out instinctively to snatch it back, but it was too late.

She could only watch helplessly as he took a sip.

"That's my glass," she pointed out in a small voice. "I already drank from it."

"?" Jimmie paused. The seat had been empty, so he assumed Juniper had poured it for him in advance.

"Sorry." Looking a bit awkward, he set the glass down and handed her a fresh one.

"It's fine." Luella scratched her head, sinking back into her chair. Her cheeks felt inexplicably warm.

How weird. He was the one who messed up. Why was she blushing?

"I was a little hungry after my flight. Heard you guys were eating here, so I figured I'd swing by," Jimmie explained, clearing his throat.

"Oh." Juniper blinked. Something felt incredibly off, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
