"Hell yeah!"
"Goddess, your army has arrived!"
The Computer Science students cheered over each other, and Juniper couldn't help but smile, her mood soaring.
Before they could get far, Juniper practically collided with Yolanda Sherwin.
Yolanda had completely dropped her usual pathetic act. A radiant, gloating smile plastered her face as she stared Juniper down.
"Sister," Yolanda stepped forward, maintaining her sickeningly sweet grin. "I hope you haven't been too affected by the news. No matter what happens, I just want you to be well."
"Ugh," Janet muttered to Juniper, leaning in close. "What bad luck. Just ignore her."
Yolanda was obviously here to pick a fight.
"I'm doing great," Juniper patted Janet's hand, her red lips curving into a cold, detached smirk. "Shanley hasn't broken off our engagement, my classmates haven't abandoned me, and the internet trolls aren't costing me a single dime. It's totally fine."
"Hearing me say that... you must be incredibly disappointed, right?"
Yolanda's smile vanished instantly, her expression souring before everyone's eyes.
The Schwartz family hadn't canceled the wedding?!
How was that possible? She was a genetically modified freak! Weren't they afraid their future kids would be monsters too?!
"Keep smiling. Why did you stop?" Queenie mocked, her hands stuffed in her pockets as she gave Yolanda a sarcastic once-over. "Are you just naturally gloomy?"
"You—" Yolanda sputtered, entirely speechless. Glancing at the squad of loyal soldiers flanking Juniper, she knew she wouldn't win a shouting match here.
Whatever. The internet was crawling with angry mobs eager to see the rich girl fall.
"I genuinely meant it," Yolanda forced a stiff, plastic smile. "After all, you were only a one-year-old baby when they modified your genes. You're a victim, too."
"But are you absolutely sure your parents had nothing to do with it?" Yolanda narrowed her eyes, feigning innocence. "Oops, did I say too much?"
"As long as you're okay. I'll be going now."
Having gotten her verbal digs in, Yolanda swayed her hips and strutted away, looking overly refreshed.
She refused to believe that Juniper could bounce back from a blow this devastating. The agony of plummeting from heaven to hell—Juniper was going to taste it, sooner or later.
"That bitch!" Hattie flared up, dropping all pretense of politeness. "She purposely came over to rub salt in your wounds. She never learns her lesson!"
