Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1443

"Deal."

Harold pushed him away. As a doctor, he was a bit of a germaphobe and didn't like people touching him.

"The person I like is..."

Completely unaware of the gravity of what he was about to say, Kurt smiled goofily, "Instructor Ebony Fox."

"Mhm."

Harold gave a noncommittal hum, but a second later it registered. "Who do you like?"

"Instructor Ebony Fox." Just mentioning her name made Kurt blush. "But she seems to really hate me. She kicks my ass all day long."

If he slacked off during training, he'd get scolded like a child.

Harold pinched the bridge of his nose, his head buzzing.

Kurt actually liked his sister.

Juniper had married his older brother, and now the younger cousin liked Ebony Fox...

Hah.

If this actually worked out, would Ebony Fox have to call that fox Shanley her brother-in-law?

Or would Shanley call Ebony Fox his sister-in-law?

What a mess of a family tree.

"Harold," Kurt took another gulp of liquor, crying as if his heart were shattered. "Tell me, how can I win her heart?"

That woman's heart was as hard as stone.

"I don't know."

After a moment's thought, Harold slowly spat out those three words.

He couldn't even put out the fire in his own backyard, let alone help someone else.

Besides—

If he knew how to win a woman's heart, he wouldn't be on the verge of getting dumped.

"Harold, I'm so miserable." Kurt kept chugging his drink, acting like he'd suffered the greatest heartbreak in history.

Harold checked the time. He'd been out for nearly an hour.

He wondered how the little cripple was doing at home.

Back at the apartment.

It was already 7:30 PM. On his way home, Harold had stopped by the supermarket for a few supplies. Women's pajamas, slippers, and toiletries—all in either pink or white. He had packed a full bag.

Pushing the door open, Harold saw the girl passed out on the sofa, fast asleep. He set the bags down, walked over, and called out softly, "Lorelei—"

Lorelei didn't respond. Her eyes remained tightly shut, and her cheeks were flushed an unnatural red.

"Lorelei?"

Harold stepped closer, sat beside her, and pressed his palm to her forehead. She had a fever.

She'd been caught in the rain earlier, and then she sprained her ankle. He was so focused on treating her foot that he forgot to give her cold medicine.

He was a doctor, and yet she'd managed to make him so furious he forgot the basics.

"Hmm?" Hearing his voice, Lorelei opened her eyes weakly, staring at him in a daze. "Harold? Are you alive?"

The living Harold? She dreamed so often that she couldn't tell the difference between her dreams and reality.

"Even if you want a divorce, you don't have to wish me dead!"

Harold gritted his teeth. He had had enough.
