Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1450

"Mmm—"

Lorelei wanted to argue back, but her mouth was suddenly shoved full of something.

The toothbrush.

The pungent taste of mint exploded in her mouth, completely waking her up.

"After you brush your teeth, I'm taking you to the hospital." Harold stood behind her, supporting her weight so she wouldn't lean over.

After all, she was still hobbling on one leg.

"The hospital?" Lorelei looked at him through the mirror, her voice muffled.

"You've been using the ointment for two days, and it's still swollen. We're going to get an X-ray to check it out."

Harold replied in a low voice.

Even though he was a doctor and had examined it himself, he couldn't put his mind entirely at ease.

Was he doing this because he wanted her to heal faster so she'd leave?

"Okay."

Lorelei lowered her eyes and agreed sensibly.

After freshening up.

Harold supervised her as she ate her breakfast: milk, an egg, and a whole-wheat flatbread.

A perfectly balanced and healthy meal.

"Let's go."

Once breakfast was finished, Harold went to his room, changed clothes, and returned to Lorelei's side.

Seeing her unskillfully managing the crutches, swaying back and forth.

He couldn't help but slow his pace, lean against the wall, and observe her carefully.

Wobbling side to side, just like a clumsy penguin.

At the rate she was going, by the time she made it downstairs and then to the hospital, it would probably be dark out.

"Heh."

Hearing the soft chuckle from behind her, Lorelei snapped her head around, only to find Harold staring at her with great amusement.

She knew he was laughing at her.

Lorelei bit her lip, but she didn't have the energy to snap back.

Whatever.

So what if she's a little cripple right now?

And seriously.

Was he just going to watch her hop all the way to the hospital like this?

At the very least, they didn't have their divorce certificates yet.

Seeing she was truly struggling, Harold slowly stepped forward. His deep, dark eyes locked onto her as he asked, "Do you need help?"

Lorelei shot him a glare, biting down on her lip, refusing to answer.

Seeing her pouting, looking distinctly unhappy, Harold's eyes darkened slightly. "Is the seat too high, or is the seatbelt too tight?"

"No."

The air inside the car felt so thin she was practically suffocating. Lorelei rolled down the window and stared out at the endless stream of traffic.

The times they had actually been able to sit quietly together could be counted on one hand.

There would be even fewer in the future.

After that brief exchange, silence settled back over the car.

Not long after.

A piercing ringtone shattered the calm.

Harold glanced at the caller ID and tapped the answer button on the dashboard.

"Mom."

Mom? Lorelei's nerves instantly pulled tight, her eyes darting toward him instinctively.

"Harold, Lorelei went to Eclara City a couple days ago, did you two meet up?" Noemi's tone was gentle, her voice filled with a smile.

Harold didn't say a word, instead turning to look at the woman beside him who had perked her ears up to eavesdrop.

"M-Mom," Lorelei jumped slightly, quickly slipping back into her role as the perfect daughter, her tone sweet and well-behaved. "I'm at Harold's place right now. I got here two days ago, so don't worry."

"Well, that's wonderful."

Hearing Lorelei's voice, Noemi breathed a sigh of relief, her voice ringing with delight. "Harold, it's Lorelei's first time in Eclara City, so make sure you take good care of her, you hear?"
