Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1455

"In your dreams." Harold instantly released his grip and took the seat next to Lorelei.

He picked up the cup and personally brought it to her lips. "It's warm. Drink up."

"Ah?" Caught off guard, Lorelei opened her mouth and took a sip.

"Have some cake." Harold scooped a bite and offered it to her.

Lorelei was thoroughly bewildered. What had gotten into him?

Was he trying to put on a show of a happy marriage just so his rival wouldn't mock them?

"Lychee?"

Joel's gaze darkened as he commented casually, "I love that flavor too."

Harold tensed, suddenly remembering exactly who liked lychee.

Heh.

So her tastes had conveniently aligned with Joel's.

"Lychee?"

Lorelei wrinkled her nose in visible disgust.

She absolutely loathed lychee; she couldn't even stand the smell.

Just as she was about to refuse the bite.

Harold suddenly stood up with the cake, his voice flat. "This one smells a bit off. I'll go exchange it."

"Heh."

Watching the man walk away, Joel leaned back in his chair with a knowing smirk.

A defensive Dr. Houston was certainly entertaining to watch.

A few moments later.

Harold returned and placed a strawberry cake in front of her.

Lorelei blinked. Her absolute favorite flavor. Her mouth watered immediately.

"Eat."

Harold handed her a fork, declaring, "You have a weak stomach and you're a picky eater. What a terrible habit."

"Thanks."

She took a bite, and her face instantly lit up.

It was delicious.

Seeing her obvious delight, Harold's expression softened before he turned his attention back to the man across the table. "Aren't you based overseas, Mr. Garner? What brings you back?"

"I have some important business to take care of," Joel answered ambiguously. "Honestly, it's something I should have done three years ago. It got delayed by unforeseen circumstances."

Three years ago?

Harold's eyes narrowed. Was he talking about Lorelei?

Joel's smile faltered, his mouth twitching.

The man had a venomous tongue.

"Cough, cough..."

Lorelei choked on her cream, startled by the heavy crossfire.

"Are you okay?"

Joel immediately reached for a napkin, moving to wipe her face.

"Much appreciated." Harold was faster. He snatched the napkin away and gently dabbed the corner of her mouth himself, asking softly, "Are you alright?"

"F-fine." Meeting his tender gaze, Lorelei's heart did a strange little flip.

"Is it good?" he asked.

"Do you want to try?" she blinked, playfully scooping up a bite.

She fully expected him to decline.

To her absolute shock, he leaned in and ate the whole thing right off her fork.

Wait, what?!

Her cheeks flushed hot. "I used that fork," she mumbled.

Didn't that count as an indirect kiss?
