Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1503

At the very bottom, she had added one last line: [I'll have my assistant come pick up the cat.]

There shouldn't be any issues with the papers. She wasn't asking for anything.

Harold stood there gripping the divorce agreement, his mind a complete mess.

They had been perfectly fine yesterday. Why was she suddenly demanding a divorce today?

It couldn't just be because he hogged her bedroom, or because he took it upon himself to rename her cat, right?

Unable to make sense of it, Harold grabbed his phone and called Lorelei.

The automated voice informed him that her phone was turned off.

Harold pinched the bridge of his nose. The headache he had barely managed to suppress came roaring back, making him feel dizzy and weak.

After thinking for a moment, he found her assistant's number. "Where's Ms. Bellamy?"

"Mr... Mr. Houston?" The assistant clearly hadn't expected him to call, her voice stuttering. "Ms. Bellamy went on a business trip to Yalania this morning. She'll probably be gone for a few days. Right now, she should be on her flight."

"Where in Yalania?" Harold pressed.

"She didn't say," the assistant replied honestly. "I believe it's a VIP client she's dealing with personally, so the studio doesn't have the details."

"Got it. Let me know the second you hear from her. And you don't need to come pick up the cat. I'll take care of it."

Harold hung up and sank onto the sofa, staring blankly into space.

*Meow~*

Pudge Bellamy had padded over to his leg at some point, looking up at him elegantly.

"Still meowing, huh?" Harold reached down to rub its fuzzy little head, his voice heavy with dejection. "Your mom abandoned us."

What went wrong?

Hadn't his sympathy play worked?

Maybe he hadn't laid it on thick enough?

While Harold sat there questioning everything, his phone rang. "Dr. Houston, there are a few issues with Eleanor's treatment plan that we need to go over again."

"Gotcha." Suki was walking down the street when her eyes suddenly widened, locking onto the corner of the cafe patio. "Holy crap, babe. Your husband is absolute trash."

"What?"

"I just saw him and Felicia at the cafe." Suki ducked behind a pillar, glaring daggers at the 'cheating couple' across the street. "You just signed the divorce papers, and he's already out here on a date with his first love. What a scumbag."

"You said it yourself, she's his first love." Lorelei had done a lot of thinking the night before and had already made her peace with it. "That spot as Mrs. Houston was always supposed to be hers anyway. It's time I stepped aside."

"Maybe it's for the best."

Suki let out a heavy sigh. "You just dump him and marry Joel Garner. If you ask me, Mr. Garner is super into you."

He was young, handsome, and successful. More importantly, unlike that dog Harold, he didn't have any messy first loves hanging around.

The more Suki talked, the madder she got. As soon as she hung up with Lorelei, she dialed Joel. "Mr. Garner, my Lori just signed divorce papers and took off for Yalania. I'm a little worried about her."

"If you have any connections in Yalania, could you maybe check in on her for me?"

She was going to make that bastard Harold regret this for the rest of his life.
