Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1534

That night.

Janet's phone notification chimes didn't stop once.

Melvin had turned into a walking encyclopedia of questions.

He just wouldn't stop asking.

Janet, with her good temper, patiently explained everything.

Listening to the girl's soft voice, Melvin's mind started wandering, and suddenly, he wanted more.

"Janet..."

He cleared his throat, interrupting her, his voice low. "I'm not used to talking like this. Let's hop on a video call."

Janet clearly hesitated for a few seconds. Too polite to refuse, she weakly replied, "Okay."

A moment later.

The voice call switched over to video.

On the screen, Janet was wearing a loose white t-shirt, her hair casually swept up into a slightly messy bun.

She seemed to be sitting cross-legged on her chair, leaning closer to the screen as she spoke.

Her beautiful, radiant complexion was magnified on camera.

Her eyes were as clear and bright as the stars, vibrant and mesmerizing.

"Phew—"

Melvin leaned back, a triumphant smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth.

Her voice had been driving him crazy all night, and now, seeing her face...

Yeah.

Much better.

"So that's basically what it means..." Janet finished explaining the legal clause and looked up at the screen.

She found Melvin with his head tilted, resting his chin on one hand, staring fixedly at her.

The man's dark, narrow eyes tilted up slightly at the corners, and his lips were curved into a faint smile.

In that instant.

Their eyes met.

Janet's heart suddenly skipped a beat, an inexplicable rush of complex emotions washing over her. It made sense—he was Jimmie's brother, and Juniper's sibling. He was incredibly handsome.

"Does my explanation make sense?" Janet broke eye contact and asked softly.

"Mhm."Melvin nodded, his thin lips moving as his gaze lifted, carrying an indescribable, roguish charm. "Next question."

"Not bad, but there's room for improvement." Juniper shot him a sideways glance, a smile blossoming on her lips.

"Then I'll just have to try harder." Shanley leaned down, the tip of his nose brushing against hers, his eyes dark and bottomless. "But, I think Ms. Payne needs to offer a little reward."

"A reward?"

Juniper naturally grabbed his tie, twirling it around her finger, her bright eyes curving into crescents. "And what kind of reward does Mr. Schwartz want? Let's hear it."

"You're being awfully agreeable today." Shanley raised a sharp eyebrow, his interest piqued. "Then I'd like..."

Beep, beep, beep—

Just as Shanley was trying to negotiate his perks, the phone next to them suddenly rang.

Flint.

Shanley frowned but answered it anyway, his voice cold. "This had better be important."

"?"

Flint's heart leaped into his throat, and he quickly replied, "Boss, it's about the Sherwin family."

"Go on."

Shanley's brow relaxed. He put the phone on speaker and set it down next to Juniper.
