Kian's breath hitched. His mouth fell slightly open, but he couldn't formulate a single word of rebuttal.
He had always assumed Janet was just a naive little fool who could be easily won over with a few sweet words.
He hadn't expected her to see right through him all along.
He had truly underestimated her.
“I'm not interested in you. No matter what you do, I won't accept it.”
Janet continued, “Also, the rumor about us dating—you're the one who started it, aren't you?”
“I'm not an idiot, and Juniper and the others certainly aren't either.”
“Out of respect for the fact that we're peers in the same program, I've always tried to save you some face.” Janet reiterated, “A person should have some self-awareness. Don't push your luck when someone's trying to be polite.”
“What did you just say?”
Kian's expression suddenly turned ice-cold. The affectionate warmth that had previously filled his eyes vanished, replaced by a dark, intimidating storm.
“You know exactly what I said.”
Janet clenched her fists. She was incredibly nervous inside but fought hard to maintain her composure. “From now on, we go our separate ways. It's best if you stop bothering me.”
“This is my final warning to you.” Janet straightened her clothes and stated bluntly, “Try it again next time, and you'll see what happens.”
Dropping the harsh ultimatum.
Janet turned and walked away at a brisk pace.
Kian stood rooted to the spot, his face dark and sullen under the night sky.
Janet Wilcox.
A woman who insisted on doing things the hard way.
So, she was really going to tear up all pleasantries with him?
Fine.
Then she shouldn't blame him for not holding back.
—
The restroom was still quite a distance from the sunrise viewing deck.
Janet used her phone's flashlight, jogging with quick, staccato steps.
As fierce as she had acted moments ago, her heart was now pounding in pure panic.
She regretted being so impulsive.
Kian's expression had looked horrifying just now—like a completely different person from his usual gentle and refined facade.
She didn't doubt for a second that if she had run a little slower, he might have slapped her across the face.
At that thought.
A lingering shiver of fear ran down Janet's spine.
Just as her imagination began running wild, her arm was suddenly grabbed.
“Ah—”
Janet let out a terrified scream.
“Don't be scared, it's me.”
