Seeing the redness rimming Kurt's eyes, Ebony Fox furrowed her brow.
Was he seriously being this dramatic?
“Coach Ebony Fox, is my hand going to fall off?” Kurt stared at her with massive, pitiful puppy-dog eyes. “You should take me to the hospital to get it checked out.”
“Stop whining.”
Ebony Fox shot him a glare. Her first instinct was to scold him for being completely ridiculous, but she remembered he only got hurt while (supposedly) bringing her an umbrella.
She swallowed back the harsh words right as they reached her lips, swapping them for: “It's just a few tiny scratches. Some disinfectant and ointment will do.”
By the time they got to the hospital, they'd probably be fully scabbed over anyway.
“Then put the ointment on for me.” Kurt pouted, not missing the chance to shoot a wildly provocative glare at Xavier. “I got so scared just now, my left hand has completely cramped up.”
Ebony Fox wasn't buying a single word of it and felt thoroughly exhausted. “Try speaking in that whiny baby voice one more time.”
Kurt: “Oh.”
“Ms. Fox is incredibly sweet to her younger friends.” Xavier kept a polished smile on his face, though his eyes were practically glued to Ebony Fox.
“Who are you calling a kid?” Every single defense mechanism in Kurt's body spiked instantly.
“Ah?”
Xavier looked genuinely innocent as he smiled. “Aren't you her younger friend?”
Kurt opened his mouth, completely speechless.
He technically was, but also absolutely wasn't.
“Did you need something specific from me?”
Ebony Fox cut through their utterly pointless bickering, asking in a low tone.
“Nothing in particular, I just wanted to properly thank you for what you did back then.”
Saying that, Xavier pulled a small blue velvet box from his pocket. “I picked this out specially. It's nothing too valuable.”
He opened the box, revealing a stunning sapphire and diamond bracelet.
The diamonds caught the café lighting, radiating a blinding, luxurious brilliance.
Nothing too valuable?
Kurt had grown up following his mother through high-end luxury boutiques; there wasn't a single extravagant thing he hadn't seen.
