Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1670

“How did Ebony Fox react?” Kurt demanded.

“React?”

The assistant tilted her head, trying to remember accurately. “Ebony Fox never really shows much emotion anyway.”

If she had to pinpoint a difference, she'd say Ebony Fox had just looked incredibly gloomy.

“She found out I liked her, and she had zero reaction?” Kurt blurted out, absolutely devastated.

It was over.

Did Ebony Fox truly not feel a single thing for him?

“Ahhh!”

The assistant jumped back, clutching her cheeks and letting out a high-pitched squeal. “Wait, you actually like Ebony Fox? It wasn't just my imagination?”

“But doesn't Mr. Saxon like you?”

Kurt's vision went black, and then black again. He seriously wanted to strangle her.

“Who the hell told you Xavier likes me?!” Kurt gritted his teeth furiously. “He's after Ebony Fox!”

“Ah?!”

Another high-pitched squeal. The assistant bit down on her sleeve, her eyes wide as saucers. “Lovers to rivals? That's so dramatic!”

Kurt was utterly speechless.

Did she even hear the garbage coming out of her own mouth?

How did that make any sense?

“Wait.”

Suddenly remembering something, the assistant snapped her jaw shut and said seriously, “When Mrs. Schwartz left after meeting Ebony Fox, she actually looked really happy.”

If she completely disapproved of them and wanted Kurt fired, she definitely wouldn't have had that expression on her face.

“Keep the fact that I like Ebony Fox a secret,” Kurt warned in a low, dangerous tone.

“Uh...”

The assistant looked incredibly conflicted, poking her fingers together hesitantly. “Sometimes I just speak without thinking. What if I accidentally...”

“Pick out any designer bag you want. It's on me.” Kurt's brow twitched as his voice dropped to a husky whisper. “Can you keep your mouth shut now?”

“Absolutely!”

The assistant mimed zipping her lips and nodded aggressively.

Even though Kurt was a few years younger than Ebony Fox, and maybe a little immature at times...

She had seen exactly what he had done for the past six months.

Ending the conversation.

Kurt pulled his gaze away, gripping the bank card as he strode purposefully out of the gym.

Meanwhile.

Behind the one-way glass, Ebony Fox stood with her arms crossed, staring down at the street below.

Her eyes were dark and unreadable. She couldn't even put a name to the mess of emotions swirling in her chest.

Even if you just got a pet cat, you'd be attached after six months.

But it was fine.

In a couple of days, she'd adapt to a life without Kurt.

—

The Schwartz family estate.

Kurt stormed furiously into the grand living room. Seeing the woman casually sipping tea on the sofa, he practically roared, “Why did you go to the gym and force Ebony Fox to kick me out?!”

“Finally decided to come home? Don't think I don't know exactly why you've been hanging around that place.”

Monique glared right back at Kurt, her voice chilling. “It's all because of Ebony Fox...”

Hearing that name slip from her lips, Kurt's heart instantly leaped into his throat.
