Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1685

Xavier's smile completely vanished.

"See ya."

Kurt took two steps forward, then suddenly doubled back, staring directly into Xavier's face. He enunciated every word, "Stop wasting your effort. Ebony Fox will never like you."

"How do you know she won't?" Xavier frowned.

"Because with me around, I will never let her like you." Kurt's lips curled into a smirk. "Be smart. Get lost."

Watching Kurt walk away, Xavier's expression shifted. Something felt incredibly off.

If he was just being protective of his sister, wasn't Kurt's attitude far too extreme?

Could it be—

Xavier's Adam's apple bobbed as a terrifying thought surfaced in his mind.

Did Kurt have feelings for Ebony Fox?

But wasn't he Ebony Fox's younger brother?

Even if they weren't blood-related, with that kind of familial dynamic, the lack of a blood tie shouldn't matter... right?

——

In the afternoon.

Kurt finished cooking and wandered around the gym, but couldn't find any trace of Ebony Fox.

She wasn't answering her phone, nor was she replying to his texts.

Even the assistant didn't know where she was.

Just as he was pacing in frustration, the assistant called. "Ebony Fox is sick!"

"Is she at home?"

Once he got her location, Kurt hung up and rushed straight to Ebony Fox's apartment.

——

Ebony Fox only realized something was wrong with her body late in the afternoon.

It was likely caused by her insomnia the night before, standing on the balcony in the freezing wind, which brought on a high fever.

She had extensive emergency medical knowledge.

Though the fever was high, it wasn't critical. She figured she could handle it herself without going to the hospital.

She hadn't expected—

Not only did the temperature keep rising, turning her brain to absolute mush.

Just as she was debating whether to call a doctor, the doorbell rang.

Dressed in simple loungewear and draped in a blanket, she opened the door.

Seeing Kurt, her eyes glazed over with confusion for a few seconds.

"I haven't taken any."

Ebony Fox leaned against the sofa, eyes closed, ignoring him.

She never took medication for minor illnesses or injuries.

That's right.

She had to let her body remember who was boss.

"You haven't?"

Kurt was both heartbroken and furious. He pulled some fever medication out of his bag. "Eat the soup first, then take the pills."

"No!" Ebony Fox turned her face away.

"If you don't, I'm calling to tattle." Kurt pulled out his phone and brought up Juniper's contact. "Are you going to eat or not?!"

Ebony Fox glared at him venomously. After a few seconds of a silent standoff, she snatched the soup from his hands.

She didn't forget to threaten him, "Once I recover, you are so dead!"

"So fierce, Coach Ebony Fox," Kurt chuckled, thoroughly amused by her. He teased, "But how exactly do you plan on killing me?"

Why did that sound so incredibly weird?

Ebony Fox frowned. Was her fever so high it was cooking her brain?
