Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1778

Watching the furious Kent, Amos's lips curled into a mocking sneer.

Rumor always had it that Kent doted on his wife as if his life depended on it, that he was utterly whipped at home.

If his wife pointed east, he wouldn't dare look west.

But looking at him now, it seemed those rumors were exaggerated.

What man could actually tolerate his wife bossing him around in front of outsiders?

Just as the Ainsworth family was preparing to watch the drama unfold.

Kent's tone suddenly shifted. He demanded sharply, "Who served this drink?! Don't you know my wife hates artificial sweeteners?"

"Apologies, sir. We served the wrong one." The maid immediately rushed forward, taking away the offending drink and replacing it with authentic black tea.

"Mhm, much better." Hannah took a sip, her eyes curving in delight. "That artificial stuff always leaves such a bitter, fake aftertaste. I just can't stomach it. But this is perfect. It actually tastes real."

"I'm glad."

Kent flashed a doting smile, his voice incredibly soft. "Right, you mentioned we had to go out? I'll go change my clothes."

Kent then turned back, locking eyes with the three dumbstruck members of the Ainsworth family.

"Ah."

Kent offered an awkward, polite smile. "Amos, my wife has some very important matters to attend to, so I'm afraid I can't stay and chat today."

"Next time. Next time, we'll definitely have a good heart-to-heart."

...

Upstairs.

Watching the two elders bounce off each other with such flawless acting, Juniper's smile deepened. She didn't hold back her praise. "I never realized Kent and Hannah were so artistically gifted."

"They probably learned from watching your mother act. Self-taught masters," Hayden murmured with a slight smirk.

Smack—

Miranda slapped his shoulder, frowning in complaint. "Don't think I can't tell you're making fun of me."

"It was a genuine compliment."

Hayden grabbed her hand, his dominant aura instantly deflating. "Mom and Dad's good cop, bad cop routine really is top-notch."

Miranda had actually acted out a nearly identical scene in one of her old movies.

Seeing that Kent was actually about to leave, Mrs. Ainsworth couldn't hold it in any longer. "Please, wait!"

"?"

Kent stopped in his tracks, turning to stare at her.

"Kent, surely you've heard about what's been happening online recently."

"Online?"

Kent walked back to his wife's side, feigning total ignorance. "There's a lot going on online. Which thing are you referring to?"

Mrs. Ainsworth was speechless. Was he seriously going to play dumb?

"Oh, that." Hannah chimed in. "Annie framed Ebony Fox and almost cost two people their lives. When she failed, Ebony Fox got the evidence against her."

"The entire internet is demanding her head right now. Are you saying you didn't know? What exactly are you doing online all day?"

The Ainsworth family felt like they had just been slapped across the face. Hard.

"Oh my god, look at this terrible memory of mine." Kent slapped his forehead. "I remember now."

"Yes, I've heard a bit about it." Kent sat back down, seizing the opportunity. "If you ask me, that child has completely lost her mind. How could she do something so utterly deranged?"
