Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 992

*Beep—*

The heart monitor's warning siren echoes as the room descends into chaos.

"Where are the doctors?!" Corvus barks, standing his ground and glaring viciously at the agonizing man. "If he dies, you're all going down with him!"

"Yes, sir!" The medical team swarms the bed, frantically knocking instruments over in their panic.

Juniper watches quietly, her gaze fixed on the man's pale, drawn face. He must have suffered unspeakable torment over the years. Death would likely be a mercy.

But for some inexplicable reason, as she watches him gasp for air while the heart monitor spikes violently, the tightness in her own chest intensifies. A voice in her head keeps screaming: *Save him!*

"Juniper, what's wrong?" Luella whispers.

"Hold this." Juniper shoves her bag into Luella's arms, rolls up her sleeves, and strides forward.

"What kind of hack taught you to save a life like this?"

The other doctors freeze, staring at the young "man" who barely looks twenty. When Corvus first brought this kid in, they had their doubts. Could someone this young really be the legendary Dr. Nocturne? More likely a fraud.

"If you want him to live, back off," Juniper commands, her expression dead serious.

The doctors tentatively look to Corvus.

"Step aside," Corvus orders coldly after a moment of thought. "Let's see what you can do, Dr. Nocturne."

Juniper ignores him. She steps up to the table, grabs a vial of cardiac stimulant, snaps it open with her bare hands, and injects it straight into Silas. Then, she places her hands over his chest and begins rhythmic, forceful compressions.

"Luella, give me the acupuncture needles."

Watching the monitor flatten, Juniper's brow furrows. The room watches in stunned silence as the young man goes to work. In less than thirty seconds, Silas's head, hands, and feet are dotted with needles.

*Is this actually going to work?* The other doctors exchange skeptical glances, having never seen such an unorthodox resuscitation method.

Silas slowly blinks, his gaze shifting toward the voice. When his eyes focus on her face, his pupils dilate. He tries to reach out to her, only to realize he is completely paralyzed. His weathered eyes well up with tears, turning red as his vision blurs.

Seeing his reaction, Juniper feels as if a sledgehammer has struck her chest. *What does that look mean?*

"How many?" she asks patiently, wiggling her fingers. "What number is this?"

"Seven..." Silas's lips part with immense effort, forcing out a raspy, slurred word.

Seven? She's clearly holding up two fingers. He's been bedridden so long that his cognitive functions must have degraded.

"He's awake, but he's in terrible shape," Juniper says, pulling back and turning to Corvus. "He needs complete rest and recovery for the next three months."

"Of course, if you want him dead, feel free to keep torturing him." She flashes a cold, tight smile. "If this happens again, I won't be able to pull him back."

Corvus glances at Silas, his eyes darkening ominously.
