Don't Say You Love Me (Emily Carter and Ethan Wilson) novel Chapter 341

Chapter 341 She’s the Most Ungrateful One

Alexander made a proper departure from Carter Manor.

The sight of him had the servants raising their eyebrows in surprise.

After all, there were no guests on the roster for Carter Manor that day, so this unfamiliar face walking out was quite the mystery.

By the time he got back to the hospital, Ashley had already caught some Z’s.

Just as she roused from her slumber, the ward door swung open, and in stormed Alexander, looking as mad as a hornet.

Ashley clocked his mood right away. “What brings you back here?” she asked, all confused.

Alexander plopped down on a chair and rubbed his forehead. “She just keeps saying no to me,” he grumbled.

At her son’s words, Ashley let out a little laugh. “Seriously? There’s someone who can turn you down?”

Alexander heaved a big sigh. “Out of all the dames out there,  she’s the most ungrateful one.”

Ashley gave him a smile and tried to soothe him. “Hey, take it easy. Good things come to those who wait.”

But the more Alexander thought about it, the madder he got. “There are tons of women dying to get in my bed. If she keeps pushing my buttons, I’ll forget about her and have a blast with other broads.”

Ashley gave him a look. “You’d better not be all talk.”

“I don’t shoot my mouth off, Ashley,” Alexander retorted.

Ashley knew he was really ticked off, but also that he was just spouting off in anger.

So, she goaded him. “Well, if you’re so tough, go sleep with a woman then.”

“Piece of cake. Sleeping with a woman ain’t no big deal,” Alexander said, and with that, he stomped out of the ward.

Ashley didn’t try to stop him. She just let him go.

But within minutes, he came slinking back in.

When Ashley saw him return, she couldn’t help but crack a joke. “What? So fast?”

Dropping onto the stool, Alexander smacked himself on the face. “I hate how hung up I am on her,” he said.

Ashley laughed. “Sometimes, being a one–woman man doesn’t pay off, and those who play the field don’t always get burned.”

Alexander didn’t want to hear that kind of stuff, so he covered his ears.

As he did, Emily popped into his head.

He remembered how he’d nipped at her ear when he left, and that made him feel a bit better.

XXXXX

The next morning, Nancy wrapped up the current stage of her research.

She’d been up all night, but luckily, the data checked out, so she didn’t have to start from scratch.

As she stepped out of the lab, she spotted Aaron in the distance.

He seemed to have just left Oliver’s office, carrying a file folder. His long overcoat made him look tall and well–built.

In the wintry Los Angeles morning, the mist was like a fine drizzle, settling on Aaron’s shoulders.

Yet, she pressed on. “How about grabbing a meal together?” she suggested.

Aaron looked straight at her and retorted, “I enjoy my own company.

The cookie–offering girl stayed put, and Nancy wasn’t one to back down. She upped the ante, saying, “Let me take you out for dinner, Aaron. It’s my way of thanking you for coming up with that research topic.”

Without missing a beat, Aaron shot back, “Professor Jones asked, so I lent a hand.”

His words made it abundantly clear that his assistance was for Oliver, not Nancy.

Initially, the young girl had felt a twinge of self–doubt upon seeing Nancy. But as she saw Aaron’s cool attitude towards Nancy, her spirits soared once again.

Nancy, smarting from Aaron’s lack of courtesy, blurted, “Aaron, you…”

But Aaron cut her off. “If there’s nothing else, I’m outta here,” he said, spinning around to leave.

On an impulse, Nancy reached out and grabbed the end of his sleeve. “Do you really hate me, Aaron?” she pleaded.

Aaron swung back around, his face a mask of coldness. “You bet I do,” he said bluntly.

Nancy was left speechless, her eyes wide with disbelief.

Aaron stared her down. “I was once smitten by your talent. You play the piano well. But you know full well what you’ve done. No point in me spelling it out.”

Silence fell over Nancy. She just stood there, unable to utter a single word.

Aaron had no intention of sticking around any longer. He turned on his heel and continued his way out of the school.

But Nancy still had fight left in her. “Is it because of Emily that you’re so against me?” she shouted after him.
