Chapter 344 Let It Out
Overcome with remorse, Ethan couldn’t stop apologizing. “Sorry, it won’t happen again, I swear,” he blurted out, his voice laced with guilt.
Nancy, however, turned her eyes away from him, her gaze falling on her fidgeting fingers. After a brief silence, she finally broke it, saying in a calm yet firm tone, “Ethan, I think we should take a step back from the marriage. Just for a while.”
It was a noncommittal answer, neither a yes nor a no.
Nancy figured that if something unexpected cropped up later, she could always say no.
But if everything went smoothly, tying the knot with Ethan, a man blessed with wealth, good looks, and influence, wasn’t such a bad deal.
Still, deep down, she felt there was more out there for her.
Her heart’s desire was to be the center of every man’s universe, to have them fight over her affection.
Ethan, upon hearing Nancy’s words, didn’t feel a twinge of unease. Instead, he felt a pang of self–reproach.
He need for more time seemed so reasonable at that_omento
Without pressuring her into an immediate decision, he simply murmured, “Okay.”
After their conversation, Ethan started the engine and drove off.
Meanwhile, Emily, when the expected impact of a collision never came, fluttered her eyes open.
Seeing the road clear, she gently eased off the gas.
But as the speed dropped, the car approached a building in the blink of an eye.
With no time to steer or react, she jammed on the brakes. Despite her efforts, the car’s momentum carried it into the building with a thunderous crash.
The deafening bang made Emily’s vision go dark, and she felt on the verge of passing out.
Fortunately, she emerged unscathed, though her insides felt like they’d been shaken up like a snow globe.
Before Emily could gather her wits, her phone, wedged in a gap of the car, started ringing.
She bent down, fumbling blindly until she finally grasped it. By then, the call had ended.
She assumed it was Vanessa, but to her surprise, it was
Alexander.
Just as she was pondering whether to call back, Alexander’s call came through again.
After a moment’s hesitation, she answered.
“Where have you been? Why didn’t you pick up?” Alexander’s anxious and annoyed voice crackled over the phone.
As he saw Emily’s car almost buried under dirt and debris, his heart skipped a beat.
Without a second thought, he stepped forward and started grabbing the stuff with his bare hands.
When he pulled open the car door, he saw Emily sitting there in the driver’s seat, looking lost.
At the sight of Alexander, Emily couldn’t hold back her emotions any longer. Her eyes welled up, and tears rolled down her cheeks.
Alexander’s heart ached. He bent down and lifted Emily out of the car.
Holding her bottom with one hand, he gently stroked her back with the other.
Meanwhile, he whispered softly in her ear, “It’s okay. Stop crying. I’m here.”
The more Alexander tried to comfort her, the harder Emily cried. She even said in a trembling voice, “I thought I was gonna die.”
As she sobbed, she wasn’t sure if she was crying because she’d survived or because of Ethan and Nancy’s wild escapades.
Her heart was so full of things that it felt like a heavy weight, making it hard for her to breathe.
At this moment, Emily just let it all out.
