Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 767

Cadence walked in and gave him a polite nod.

“Sir.”

Jared motioned for her to take a seat.

“Sit with me for a bit.”

She settled across from him, quietly placing a stack of files on the stone table.

Jared stood up, lifted the teapot, and poured her a cup of tea, sliding it gently in her direction.

“Try it. See if it’s the kind you like.”

Cadence picked up the cup and took a small sip. The warm, floral aroma lingered on her lips.

It was osmanthus dew, her favorite tea.

“Sir, why did you call me here?”

Jared let out a deep sigh and leaned back, suddenly looking much older and more worn out, as if he finally allowed himself to relax.

Only when Cadence was around did he ever drop his guard.

“I met with Emmy and James today.”

He rubbed his temples, his voice low and edged with defeat.

“They’re both so stubborn. They refuse to let the Nelson kids come back to the family.”

Cadence took another elegant sip of tea.

“So, how did the talks for deeper cooperation go?”

Her voice was cool and clear, almost washing away the brief warmth of family talk that had settled in the pavilion.

Jared’s expression tightened for a second.

He looked at her, almost pleading.

“Do we really have to talk work now?”

Cadence met his gaze, her eyes calm and businesslike.

“The election date has been set.”

“In my opinion, nothing is more important than your political affairs. I hope you won’t let family drama throw you off.”

“I’ve reviewed Emmy’s agricultural project closely. The numbers are impressive. Give it three months and it’ll bring in big results.”

“If she changes partners now, it won’t do you any favors.”

Jared’s brow stayed furrowed.

He knew all of this, of course, but the thought of his grandkids possibly growing up far from him left him anxious and unsettled.

“What if she insists on divorcing James and takes the kids with her?”

Cadence answered without hesitation. “She won’t.”

Jared raised his eyebrows, caught off guard.

She kept going, “Besides, I think the kids would actually do better being raised by their mother.”

Jared’s face darkened.

Cadence didn’t seem to notice, just slid the files across the table to him.

“These need your signature.”

She stood, her tone suddenly distant and formal.

“Sir, you should still call me your junior. Please, be rational.”

She gathered the signed documents, held them close, and gave a small nod.

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going.”

She turned and walked away.

Jared watched her leave, the light in his eyes fading bit by bit, until all that was left was a heavy, silent kind of loneliness.

Elsewhere, Emmy’s black SUV moved smoothly along the road toward Moonlight Bay.

Out of nowhere, a sleek black luxury car pulled up beside them and gradually forced them to the curb.

Micah, the driver, caught sight of the tall man getting out and turned back, eyes wide.

“Ms. Lincoln, it’s Mr. Nelson.”

Emmy, sitting in the back, looked up.

Outside, a man in a perfectly tailored suit was striding toward them, all icy confidence and authority.

The next moment, the car door swung open.

James bent down and stepped inside.

“Everyone out.”

His voice was low and firm. There was no room for argument.
